A couple of months ago I took a 9" LC to the dump and today another 9 incher is on the way. That leaves me with 3 crt projectors and one Barco Industrial digital that I use for my outside screen. If my indestructable AmPro 4600HD, modded with Athans high resolution tubes ever bites the big one, that too will be dropped off at the dump. At that time I'll be done with front projection. Then the family room will return to just that, a family room. I will hang the biggest LED flat screen I can find within reason and harvest the mushrooms growing in the cave.
A while back I was looking for a XG to try and modify with 9" tubes but the price of the day and shipping put the boots to that idea. As it stands now, I have absolutely no desire to get involved with any future crt experiments. |
How are those tubes? Do they work well? |
Well the price was right and they work well at normal contrast levels but if you try to bump up the contrast they loose electronic focus. I have been running the $hit out of them for about two years now and they show no sign of wear.
For me to use them in a AmPro required a huge amount of re-work on the neck boards. |
Do they seem to have the same contrast output at their level before they loose focus to the original tubes at full contrast?

Athanasios |
it`s always bull**** as phosphor is only used in monochrome displays.

Nope!
I was able to push the OEM tubes much harder before focus would suffer. They are sharp as a tack until you hit the point where focus begins to fall off and it goes quick after that point. I'm running it right on the edge and it's good enough for me. They have already out lasted the previous tubes. My wife is hinting sabotage as she wants to get rid of it and hang a nice flat screen. All I have to tell her is the longer it lasts, the cheaper the replacement will be.

I sold it locally kinda (Rhode Island) to a young college student.
I see he joined this site this morning.
I'm sur he'll have plenty of questions.
I'm glad someone will put it to good use, I hated the thought of parting it out.
