Yes, there would be no reason to encode and broadcast a 24p source to 60p - it would be a huge waste of satellite bandwidth.

I remember this capability coming in an update well after I got my HR2X's. I would assume they probably had the ability in the software to put a 1080p/24 signal into the encode/decode stream, and to have the boxes decode and output that 1080p/24 signal directly on HDMI. What they probably couldn't do is what BD players can do, which is the 1080p/24 to 1080p/60 rate conversion, and I would assume that's a hardware limitation.

Funny... I remember trying it with the CRT and assuming it was 24p, but since I switched to digital a few months ago, I haven't even bothered trying it. Wink

You can use a VP or HDMI receiver to upconvert the 1080p 24Hz to 60Hz. However, DTV looks like crap compared to BD so who really cares anyway? If I watch a movie I use a source that can provide better quality than DTV... but that's me.

True dat.

I have ZERO interesting in paying $5 to DirecTV to PPV when for significantly less money I can get a BD from Red Box or Family Video with SUPERIOR picture and sound quality.

Why pay more for an inferior product?

There is no sports in 1080p. Broadcast is 1080i or 720p both at 60Hz. The only reason DTV and others now offer 1080p 24Hz is because it requires LESS bandwidth than 1080i or 720p 60Hz. There is no conversion that can do 60hz sown to 24Hz in the consumer world, it just isn't done (and sports would look terrible).

If you want 1080p 60 Hz for sports than you just need to deinterlace the 1080i to 1080p. With correct deinterlacing (converting i to p) you will have identical image quality to 1080p. Literally, exactly the same image quality.

Just use an HDMI receiver that is known for good deinterlacing, or use a VP. A VP provides a huge advantage for CRT for all resolutions, so it's good to use anyway. If you want to do this on the cheap than just use a receiver with "good" video quality.
