So, a couple of days ago I watch Another Earth , which is only the second directorial product of Mike Cahill. According to Wiki, the idea for this movie came up during a conversation between him and the movie's lead, Brit Marling. Both actress and director can be classified as the new talent in town considering they were both in 1979 and 1982, respectively, and are both credited for writing.

The Wikipedia excerpt: The idea behind Another Earth first developed out of director Mike Cahill and actress Brit Marling speculating as to what it would be like were one to encounter one's own self. In order to explore the possibility on a large scale, they devised the concept of a duplicate Earth.

I had not done any research prior to watching this movie and I had no knowledge of actress or director. I watched this movie in the basement family room while playing a game on the iPad. I had to sit the iPad down several times before I concluded I wasn't going to continue playing the game.

The notion of another Earth is the backdrop for the film, which focuses on its central character who underwent a life-altering event that cost her her future fortunes. The movie details the emotional and psychological progression from the event through a fast-forwarded present, which is four years later.

Can you take the hint? I'm not trying to spoil the movie, but I will say that once the two planets get close enough to make first contact, and humans are realized on the other Eart, private ventures take part to lottery tickets for anyone to go visit. The lead character wins a ticket, thinking she could go see her other self.

... it is believed that one yourself had become aware of the other Earth and your 'other you' that the synchronization of how your lives have played out were broken. Since she was aware of the other Earth just prior to her life-altering event, she hoped her other self was successful.

So, the movie plays out and keeps your attention (surprisingly) and the final ending was almost expected, but the final scene wasn't. SURPRISE! Mr. Green I am tempted to buy this when it comes out tomorrow. I was more drawn to the philosophical questions, both personally and otherwise. I can have a good many party conversations with the movie's idea, but overall I would buy it just to watch it for the content and completely be oblivious to the technical quality of any BD offering.

I give this one a couple of Thumbs Up
