|

Hello to all. Awhile ago, I started a thread here that involved an issue with my Marquee 8500.
Turns out what I was seeing in the picture was due to "ringing". Many contributors to the post outlined that using a video processor was ideal in helping to resolve some of this aberration since one could effectively customize both resolutions and porch settings.
I have finally decided to upgrade from my HD Fury (first generation) and am not certain as to whether I should adopt a Moome solution or go for the latest HD Fury iteration.
Based on what little I was able to garner from the forum, it appears as though the Moome devices provide for a higher quality image. However, as serendipity would have it, don't I receive an email today from HD Fury which emphasized some details on their latest product and apparently you can tweak porch sizes now too.
So, which is the better option? I know for a fact that there are many experts here and I would sincerely appreciate any insight. I am feeding the projector a signal from a PS3 currently. And, I am by no means an expert in this arena (I wasn't even familiar with the term "porch setting" until this transpired.......).
In anticipation of your kind replies, Thank You. Also, Thanx Kal for your help, and, Hello Curt! (*album two is on its way
Cheers!

neither the moome or the hdfury lets you adjust the porch settings.
the moome provides a higher quality image however, craig rounds posted some scope shots a while ago proving this fact.

Hello, and, Thanx for the reply. Here is a direct quote from their site:
" Porch settings editor software and custom firmware creator software should be released soon (at least for 1080p72, more output mode support will come later)"
Now, as far as to when this will occur, I have no idea.

mmh, interesting.
but this means the software will be useless when not using a pc as a source.

I really don't know enough to comment, but, will agree that your assessment is probably accurate. Thanx for your input, I do appreciate it.

Even though it's not catastrophic in nature, now that I've seen the "ringing" on the image, it's just bugging me..... Someone from the forum has already conducted some comparative test and has stated that Moome's card is better in terms of picture quality. I was curious whether the folks here were aware of the latest developments with regards to HD Fury's products.

I did have one other consideration if anyone can chime in; If I were to go with the Moome option, are there any major differences between the internal and external devices? Thanx

1080P72 is too munch info to cram onto an 8 inch tube and it's also way too high for a 15 year old CRT chassis unless some work has been down to refresh/replace/upgrade parts.
Get the moome internal, fewer cables = cleaner signal. Buy a used lumagen HD for $150. and set the porches and timings that way,
For a stock 8500 chassis, 1440 x 810 @ 72hz is a good choice, it's an exact 25% downscale of 1080P and an even multiplier of 24 frame per second native film rate

Thanx for the reply draganm, I appreciate it.
Looks like the Moome option is the preferred way to go. Ideally, I can find a used card somewhere. Is it likely that people will start to shed their version 3 card when the version 4 is released?
And, you seem to have opened up another contentious issue as to whether an 8500 can actually handle 1080P; I never had a really straight answer on this one........
