I just called Don back, but he's in the middle of BBQ so he's going to get me back in a few.
I have fixed dozens of error 88 YA boards and it has never once been a bad IC421. There are quite a few chips that can cause this error, but I don't really foresee not being able to fix this one. Once I get this board I should be able to turn it around in a few days.
Kind regards,
craigr

Also, error 88 is most likely not a Dallas chip.

ALSO, NEVER RUN A G90 IF IT IS THROWING ERROR 88'S. ERROR 88 WILL OFTEN RESULT IN DEFLECTION CLAPS AND STRIKE ALL THREE TUBES RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE!!! IF YOU EVER GET AN ERROR 88, SHUT DOWN THE PROJECTOR AND DON'T TURN IT ON AGAIN UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED... unless you don't care about your tubes. even if the projector is throwing 88's in standby, if it decides to throw an 88 while it is running it will often strike all three tubes.

So what's the usual causal part Craig? Or are you keeping it under your hat for now.

Craig,
Are you sure it can strike all three tubes down the middle? Hypothetically, could it happen even though the machine only had 500 hours on it?? Man, it would really suck to be on the receiving end of a total collapse with the result being three stripes burned down the middle of a 500 hour machine with pristine tubes!!!!
Thanks to my therapist and few unlikely incredible deals on a couple of other G90s, I was able to recover financially from that disaster!!!
Craig is absolutely right, DO NOT RUN YOUR PROJECTOR IF IT IS THROWING THESE CODES!!!!
Mac, you still got those tubes??

BTW, Craig repaired the YA board and also did some touch-up on the Moome card.
Lookin' good so far!!! Just watched Avengers 3D; simply marvelous!!!!
Need to get back downstairs in the HT more often now that it is cooler outside (no air conditioning in the HT makes for a long summer)...............
Dexter!!!!!! Craig, you now what I mean!!! A lot of hours to catch up on....
Craig,
Thoroughly enjoyed the short visit recently!! Looking forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving time!

Couldnt you just take fine grit sand paper to it and then rattle can it? I mean if you wanna get crazy use automotive paint.

Don,
Take it to any autobody shop and trade out your BBQ for a coat of paint. They would be absolute idiots not do that deal! Seriously, I'm sure they would do it for such a small piece.
I took mine and Craig's to a friend of mine that does a little bit of body work. He primed and painted them for us and I just dropped off a few pizzas for him and his family. Not sure what paint he used but it was a flat black. The auto body shop could probably put a nice coat of clear on it as well for you.
Usually those guys are good, down to earth people who enjoy a hobbyist such as yourself and would enjoy making your case look nice. Add in your mouth watering BBQ, and they are sure to go the extra mile for you!!!!
