Okay so here is the deal. I got a 1208 s2 from a friend who got me very interested in the crt projector hobby. I currently own an epson 8350 home cinema and I've loved it since I got it picture quality is super sharp and brilliant. I have a couple of questions. I didn't even know crt projectors at all until my friend Andy who is a member at this forum introduced me to them. It seem very interesting to me especially since i've read hundreds of reviews and comparisons between lcd and crt. Most people say that crt is better. any ways I don't even know why I am talking so much. I have a couple of questions. excuse my stupidity I am new to this.

1. How can I check the condiiton of my tubes?
My friend told me they are basically toast. I turned on the projector and all tubes work. tho they are definetly not giving me 1200 lumens, not nearly 1000.

2. I want to put and hdmi card on this thing so It would do 1080p on hdmi. Some people even told me that I would get better picture with and hdmi card than from any the ports already in it. It's that true?

3. Can I do 1080p on port 5? or the main port? and will it look good?

4. How does this projector compare to the Epson 8350? Any owners out there of a lcd projector with a decent crt projector can you give some comparison?

I am willing to spend money on this projector the problem will be time to get the money Smile. I you have any Ideas or any input on tis It will be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

You have to find out how to unmount the lenses, so you could directly watch the tube faces.
Here is everything you want to know about tube wear: tube wear article
The brightness of the CRT projectors are most often specified in peak lumens, which is not the same as ansi lumen. A machine which is rated at 1000 peak lumen usually puts 160-180 ansi lumens.

In theory: yes, the less the analog line the better the picture, however usually it is not a big deal (it usually depends on the projector as well), if you'd run 1-2m analog cable vs digital the difference would be subtle.

You can do, get a VGA to BNC cable, and hook it on a computer. I would suggest to get this cable first -it is cheap compared to a hdmi card- so you can learn the operation of the machine and the capabilities without big investment, and you'll see if you like crts or not.

Thanks for the advice gjaky. Is kind of sad that my post has had 59 views and only 1 person was able to give me some input Sad . I would really appreciate more newbie advice if anyone would be kind enough to do so, like my friend gjaky here has done Smile . Does someone out here have any experience in comparing a 3 lcd projector with a crt projector's PQ. Would I be able to do with the barco 1208 s2 1080p as good as an $900 3 lcd projector?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I read it, but have a bunch of installs on the go, so I'm spending less time here. They are all good questions, but a whole bunch of them have already been answered here in other posts, and the main website has a bunch of other info on it.

Felix,

tell these guys where to get free beer and already paid for hookers and then I guarantee they would reply to this post. The question is does it have our company's polarizer in that projector of yours? HE HE...Do not do what I did and let Greg Eisermann tell you it is worthless to use unless you change everything out. I continued to use the 933 and never mounted your projector like I should have. Just do the HD-145 Lens mod, use the cable you got from me with a PC and then use a external moome box like the one in the link below and plan on changing the tubes later in the year.
