I'll be heading down from Naperville area Saturday at lunchtime. I'm expecting enough 1PM to 1AM awesomeness that I'll be able to drive all night back to Pittsburgh on the adrenaline (and caffeine) without trouble. Of course, this means I'll hafta' get my buzz in early in the day. Any single malt requests I might be able to satisfy? I figure I gotta' bring *something* to the party, right?!
And Don - thanks! I'm still trying to convince the guy who got your machine to come along...

Today kicked my butt, but I AM leaving by 8:00PM. That gives me a 4:00AM ETA in Chicago for a 7:30AM meeting! I'll be leaving Chicago for Cliff's around noon with 1PM ETA. 48hours of adrenaline and then a great crash Sunday -- this will rock!

Curt here, don't want to sign out of Cliff's account. The repair of the G90 was a gong show!
Let me start by saying that the blue output was low a TAD. Not by like 90% or similar. Without color calibration showing the issue, the set was useable. Viewing the blue output between sets however, and it was noticeable.
So Cliff got up early and changed the video output board. no change He then put in the new RGB board I'd brought down, and the set died. Would try to turn on, then nada. Fans didn't spin. 60 error code, indicating an 'unknown' error code. Oh and I swear I smelled something burning on the LVPS.
I've had two 60 error codes, and each time it was the main LVPS. So I personally didn't hold out much hope for the set, since I didn't have a LVPS with me.
So we pulled the LVPS and cleaned it. nada change. I had a feeling that my RGB board nuked the LVPS, so I felt really bad, even though my RGB board worked in my test set for 100s of hours.
So I told him to pull the LVPS, and the sub LVPS beside it. When he pulled out the sub LVPS beside the main LVPS, and pressed on the Ac input connector for it, we heard a small 'click' as the connector seated itself. Cliff figured it was fixed, I still figured it was toast. reassembled, and the damn thing worked.
So hte new RGB board still gave a low blue output. gains maxed at 254 instead of 169 on the other set.
So we decided to change the blue tube, since that's all it could be, right? Put in my worse blue tube, fixing a small leak that had developed while I brought it down, changed glycol, and after a couple of hours of futzing around, the tube was in. Same problem. WTF???
So we poured the glycol back into his original tube, and put it back in. same problem.
So I looked on the theory of operation manual on the main site, and started looking for the G2 source. It was the PE board, but was driven by the YA board. By complete fluke I had a Ya board with me, so we put it in. the blue got noticeably brighter!
not sure if it's 100% cured, and with Mr Whitcomb having just walked in the door, we'll find out very soon if the replacement Ya board did it.
What a day!
on a positive side, I did have my first White Castle experience. Nice!!!!

Mmm... White Castle! Had my first when I was at Cliffy's a few years ago!
Good job taking sh*t out and putting it back in until the problem fixed itself... Sounds like how I fix stuff!
Kidding! Seriously, hopefully the Ya board was the issue and the stack is back...
Wish I could be there... Say "Hi" to Ken for me!

No one dares come close to me right now. I've had White Castle and deep dish pizza. I could power Cliff's audio system via methane right now. 'Nuff said.

There is some serious conversation going on here between Ken and Curt.
Man that stack sure does look pretty! For my over seas friends, this is the one fo sho!
Don is contemplating whether he should support the left or the right. The pill has been offered to him
Yeah, I gotta some how find the time to get to know this D5000 I have. In auto mode it's not so fun, but this is the cool part FO SHO!
CALIBRATION, one of the MOST important parts of a CRT setup. The best part about this is EVERYONE and no I am not kidding or leaving any name out, EVERYONE built this from across the world, well maybe not everyone, but you know who you are
