The tubes are pretty unacceptable for someone wanting perfection, but heck, I'd run with them. NOw it all depends what's wrong with it regarding the error codes.

I'd start by reading everything in the "CRT Projector FAQs, Tips, Manuals" section of the site. From there I would read the service manual for your 708 and work with Curt to get it up running. Personally I started with a junk $50 ecp3500 set and basically fixed and fine tuned the thing to perfection. I think with this hobby its just a natural progression to learn more about how to fix/diagnose and calibrate the various sets. Just be smarter than I am and don't end up with 15 150 pound monsters collecting dust.

Both are much older than the 708 and not on par with it. I'm selling good working 708s for $800 to give you an indication. I do have better tubes here with less wear, the problem is, I have a pile of customers that still use these in commercial applications like planetariums that will pay top dollar for parts. Run with it the way it is, let's get any problems going with it, and if you decide to part it out, there's a couple of parts I'd buy out of it.
THe pix will be usable. Don't feel bad, if I had $1.00 for every seller that said the tubes were mint and hte set was 'perfect', the house would be paid off. Go figure.

I gotcha. Let me see if I can come up with something cheap for you, but it's more important to fix the other problems at this point before doing the tubes.

Dude, I'm reliving 1999 vicariously through you all over again!
That's when I bought my first 5 Barco 800s from Boeing in Seattle at $600 each. Not as good as your 708, that's what got me started in what you now see here.

You don't really need 1080 to watch VHS or Laserdisc.
On the other hand, you don't really want to watch either as-is without a line doubler or something like that anyway
You'd probably best set it up first and try figuring out how (and if) it all works, before spending more $$
I've only started a month or so ago. At first it all looks hopeless but once you've set it up, and learning about it, it starts getting better and better

Heh. Just about anywhere. Like on e-bay or your local electronics shop. BNC is a professional standard. It was very popular actually.

ok so im fiddleing with the barco tonight and for the adjustment says to loosenthe four nuts on the lens so i can move the tag for
screen size is something supposed to happen when i had the lenses off i noticed the red one had a gold ring around it or i think it was a
gold ring non of the other lenses have that buy i do notice 2 little notches if that make sense but i dont notice anything on
the part that the tag controls that would fit into any of the notches
so im a little confused
im going to find some bnc cables or adapters to see if this beast works
also is there away
i can have the pj close to the screen like on a coffee table i dont thing my land lords would like it if i mounted thins thing to the cealing

Yes you can put it on a table. You can configure the tubes for upside-down, straight up, and front and rear projection.
You'll need to open up the case and (carefully!) reverse a few specific connectors or switches inside.
You should really read more on Curt's website. Look for information on reversing the scan direction of the tubes.
And after that, there is (another) ton of information that you probably didn't yet know, here on the forum.
Don't try to read through all that in a single day ... because you can't
