|
|
Ok, so lately I have noticed one of the projectors way off so Ken stopped by the other night and one of my blue tubes is not putting out no where near the needed light output even with the gain turned up to max.
I have tried ABG to correct it, but no go. It appears I am losing the tube. A real bummer cause its basically new.
Any suggestions on what to try to save it?

Unless the video amp is bad (swap it between tubes), it sounds like you have a bad tube. Warranty?

I wish. It was one of Terry's specials, so NO
Looks like I need to score a tube hopefully CHEAP!!!!
Maybe I should just drop one of my old ones in. They still had plenty of output to spare.......
Uhggggg the thought of cutting off hardware from the tube again. what a pain in the ass

Bah, hte G90s are the simplest of all CRTs wrt the tube mounting.. I do have a brand new blue one, but I agree, put in one of your old ones.

Uh huh, yeah. I dont think so. You must be thinking of the G70
The only thing is, I have to get the old tube EXACTLY back on the hardware the way it was in order for the wear pattern to line up. That has me a bit worried. I may just get a replacement that has no wear.
Maybe I can throw my set of old tubes up for sale to finance it

Are the Thomson (sp) high rez tubes NOA? Do I need to hoard fresh blue and green tubes and YA boards now to keep this beast running.

Cliff, you need to do as Curt suggests and swap neck cards between blue and green before you start worrying about tubes. G90 neck cards are one of the more common failures for the projector.

Ok, I am still having the same problem. Going to try changing the video amps around today to see if anything changes.
Outside of the video amps, the pe board, and the blue tube, anyone have any suggestions?
I re-seated the YA board, and the video input board this morning, no go. I am however having a problem with the video input board where it will not hold sync on warm up. The picture shifts and eventually collapses horizontally. Once I switch inputs to SVIDEO and back to RGB, the problem goes away and stays away until the next power up (only happens on warm up). I'm thinking I should change this board as well.
I'm going to give this one last shot before I part them out and call it a day.

Cliff i wonder if the gun in the Blue tube just has some contamination that needs to be completely burned off. Your Subs can shake the filling out of your mouth!! I wonder if over time some came loose and is now just burning off here and there?
Can you tap the tube with a wooden dowel or broom handle and see if it causes a light show inside the tube neck?

Damnit, I wanted to change that video amp today but friends stopped by wanted to watch 3D LOL.
I'm not 100% sure Nash, but this tube needed to be turned up higher than normal from day one. It has slowly dropped off since then so I might be looking to you for one of your Thomas Tubes. I wonder how it would do in the G90. Ken has a VDC rebuild laying around, but I dont trust those.
Either way, if changing the video amp doesn't do it I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the blue tube, but who knows. I'm flying blind at this point. Hopefully I will get this figured out.
I'll try tapping it as well, but I dont think that will be it.

Have you tried swapping boards between the 2 machines and see if the issue follows any boards?
