Nah, not upset it all. Just don't like it when people spread what amounts to misinformation because of their own personal dislikes. If you want to say you don't like the PS3, or you think there's better players for the money, that's fine. You're welcome to your opinion, of course. But, when it's implied that it's junk or stated that the picture quality is inferior, then I feel the need to correct the issue for the OP. This hobby is expensive enough without people telling you to replace gear that should work perfectly fine.
I'm not an addict, either... I played one game a lot with a couple of buddies online a few nights a week about two years ago in the winter/spring - that's when I put the light burn in my phosphor. These days, I'm way too busy to play, as I've been working nearly every evening - even some on weekends. When I do take a night off, the wife and watch a movie. So, unless you consider playing video games once a month for an hour or two an "addiction"...
| draganm wrote: | | ok, it's a decent player, lets let it go at that. My panasonic BD-80 us extremely slow so it's not like I'm tooting the horn for that one either. |
Thank you! I wasn't tooting the horn for the PS3, either... Just saying it was a decent player. I think they all have some thing that isn't ideal, so it just comes down to you want to spend your money, and what's important.
| draganm wrote: | | i guess you need ot spend $500. for an Oppo to get a really good player with no "issues". Boy would I be pissed though after spending 5-large and finding bugs there too. |
I'm sure the Oppo has certain issues, too... Although, from everything I'm reading, it's closer to perfect than any other player on the market. Of course, that comes at a price - two to three times some of the other players. OTOH, 5-6 years ago, there were plenty of BD players that much more expensive than that.
Personally, I don't think $500 is that bad for a really excellent player that you could get 3-5 years out of, and perhaps recoup 20-30% of the initial price selling it. Of course, I haven't been rushing to get one. Missed a used BDP-93 on local Craigslist... $350 used. I was pretty pissed, as that was right in my comfort zone.
Regardless, yes - issues with it would piss you off. But, these things are practically computers, now... The hardware and the software running on it so much more complex than everything used to be. So many different audio codecs, video codecs, lots of different resolutions, HDCP, file systems, upscaling, down-scaling, Java, blah, blah, blah.

I have no problems with this!! Im more than happy to let the player do that, if its up to the task!!

Hey I'm a PC gamer, and, coming from a console guy that's a pretty scathing. Not a PS3 fan? There is something to be said for just popping in the disk and going on the PS3 as opposed to getting the right drivers for the PC configuring it etc..
I have the 60gb PS3 with the card readers. It's the handiest for viewing MP4 video and jpegs from any camera you can throw at it. Better media handling than the PC, don't have to search for updates blah, blah
|
I always keep my PC up to date though, even when im not gaming on it, its just a habbit ive always been in. And lets face it, that isnt exactly hard or even time consuming is it.
As you know, with a PC, you only need to pop the disc in once... After that, you can play without it any time you like, and from 2x SSDs in RAID0, it loads easily 500 times faster than a PS3!!
Never had to search for updates to view any media, but then i dont view alot, so i dont see this as a downside either. Its not even an issue.
| AnalogRocks wrote: | | Plus you can buy one for the cost of a windowz install disk. All including the hardware. |
Not here you cant, not even close. Windows 7 is $96 AUD. Cheaper than even a 2nd hand PS3!!
| AnalogRocks wrote: | | I get it. Your panasonic looks great. However the PS3 is great at many things besides just playing movies. |
A jack of all trades and a master of none essentially?
Dont take it to heart bud, i know it suits you, but it dont suit me and thats my point

I was a poor student in grade 9 when I bought that duron, it was before the days of the Athlon xp! But it was faster for a lot of things than my mates P4 1.5Ghz machine
Mercedes ey, I like the look of some of those, especially the amg versions. They say my statesmans headlights were Mercedes inspired. It drinks a fair bit but as it's just a show car on car club plates, I'd probably fill up its 91 litre tank twice a year. I take it out for holden car club events and car shows. My daily drive is my commodore wagon for work, on lpg injection. Do u have a merc?
Haven't touched the projector but I'll go with what u said and just increase the width control, thanks! I had always wondered whether the blanking solves that issue of running the image off the edge of the face. |
Yeah mate, i have a 95 C class, just a basic regular Merc. Its been the best car iver ever owned bar none, in 11 years, ive hardly spent a cent on it. Just basic servicing and a couple very minor part replacements, and genuine parts are not expensive at all. Its the labour that kills if you have to pay someone else, but this is not an issue for me, i have always done my own work, i have all the tools.
Yeah it is something i wondered back in the day when i first got my PG up and running, i was used to the Sony 1001, and its a non issue there. There are some inputs on my PG and my XG where the raster is off the tube face, more so on my PG cause its got no visible wear on the tubes, and its hung quite low and aimed as high as i could get it for movies in bed, so its using almost zero keystone, almost square on the tube faces. Been running it for about 3 years and done alot of hours and never an issue, apart from a failed system board, which is nothing at all to do with that!!
