or not. This is a machine local guy bought for a grand + freight. Looked like a real jewel at first but he had me check it out and do some mod's to it. What a fricking mess, the motherboard ,insulating strip under it , and one of the umbilical's to the neck-board were just swimming in Glycol. It's a miracle the Glycol didn't drip down on the VIM or CLM or seep under the Back-plane. This a machine with less than 1K hours on it
When I took the fill plugs out the Glycol from the tube shot out 3 feet and sprayed the wall. Folk's, this is what you should expect with any marquee LC that hasn't been serviced or re-built. MAkes a strong case for a good old 8500 don't it?

Yes, that leaking thing is a problem, but brought us a lot of high end Marquees to our home theaters. A short time ago I bought a low hours 9500 Ultra for cheap from a factory. It was hanging from the ceiling and leaking glycol, so it was removed from setup like a defective device! As it was ceiling mounted, no damage done. I only had to remove some of the ultra pressure glycol (40ml per tube).
But gentleman, I found out that you should change the glycol in such a machine, because the absorbed water in the glycol will change the corner focus on your lc lenses. More water means that the edges of the picture will move out of the screen, and will challenge you corner focus! Much better corner focus on a flat screen with normal glycol!

Now THAT is interesting, never even thought of that but it makes sense. IF you add water it changes the refractive index DOH. 
I don't think I'm going to mess with it though. I have already done more work than I was hired to do and I think the owner will really need to just re-build all 3 chambers when his budget allows it. I will find out today if the machine still runs ok, tubes have been siting on garage floor and it appears they stopped leaking leaking after releasing the pressure

Five or six years ago you would have blown someone for a 9500LC Ultra in any condition for a grand.
Now these days you have to provide oral gratification just to get someone to take it at any price

I tried, the owner got caught up in the 9 inch buzz and rolled the dice on this. As it turns out, even with my repairs, he is getting a sweet machine. Correct lenses, newer Ultra , low hours, clean tubes.
However If I wasn't local though he would be screwed and paying double the purchase price to fix this mess. What does VDC charge, $450. per tube to replace bellows and Glycol.......
