I didn't want to hijack/sidetrack Don's thread and didn't find an answer on searching. Are the tubes simply over-capable of resolving 1080i and the electronics simply not capable? Was this a way to do very little redesign to use a 2000 chassis and compete with the M8100s? What's the story. This is neat. Jeremy? Others?

I certainly know I would miss this question on a the CRT PJ Enthusiast's Entry Exam:
"Circa 1992 Ampro began offering the 4000 series projectors. These feature 9" tubes and are Liquid Coupled. The machine does not have EM focus and is capable of displaying 1080i. Discuss this machine's performance characteristics, unique attributes, and originally targeted niche in the marketplace"

You guys can add you own questions...provided they are not trivia and are at least semi-factually based! Rolling Eyes

Finally, am I missing the Ampro 2300 and 2600 7" EM sets in the PJ rankings list?

Cheers,
Matt

I've run 1080i into my 4000. Depending on the input card you may get some flagging

Did you mean 1080p? I saw where you wrote before 1080i/96 and 72 worked and that shortly after 1080p bad things happened...overheating?

Anyway, any idea what was the story of these (to today's thinking lower-end) 9"LC machines a few years before the Marquees, etc.?

Here you can find some neat brosschure about old ampro pj-s (at the end you can find a pj with "light valve technology" I found it quite interesting)

SD-146A tubes will not dosplay 1080P they simply give you a black screen. They will however display a very nice 1080i. They can also display 1080i 96 but the CR is not very good at that frequency.

at 1080p the projector blew up, took out the LVPS, HVPS and the main power here left me in the dark Laughing it was fun.

I run it at 64khz of the line quadrupler just fine now. The kaboom was due to some bad neck cards.
