Ok, I watched some of this yesterday before putting it away. I watched the remake of Star Trek last week and thought I could tolerate this one. For years I enjoyed The Wrath of Khan in terms of special effects, costumes, and set designs, but watching it yesterday after seeing the ST remake I think I am changing my position.

While everything about TWoK was infinitely better than ST: The Motion Picture (why TMP? Did they think folks would get confused between the living rooms and the theater?), I found myself being analytical again when it came to the storyline. This with the quirky costume designs set to keep me away from enjoying the film and more about thinking about watching something else in the theater.

I then got to thinking about when Saavik mentions to Spock in the turbolift (McCoy calls it an elevator) about Kirk "not being what I imagined. he's so ... human." Yet, she already met him back at Starfleet Academy during the Kobayashi Maru simulator scene where she actually speaks to Kirk.

And then when Kirk plans on going over to science station she quotes Kirk on Starfleet regulations about a command officer going into a hostile environment without armed security (Kirk's answer was to invite her along). Yet, Captain Terrel and Chekov went down to Ceti Alpha VI (V) even though the science officer already stated it was an environment that could not support life. So, why not a single hand-phaser? Not even a slingshot.

Last time I checked phasers can be used for things in addition to stunning and killing. And if they could beam into and out of a wind and sand torrent that was the outside environment, why not from the cargo pod? They can beam from outside in the hell storm, but not communicate an emergency via a single button on their suits? Hmm.

BTW, I would presume that transporters had built-in technologies and configurations to warn ahead of time when someone is beaming on-board with space herpes (eels). You would think that allowing ear lice to be brought on board a science station was important, but considering the rats running about the station I guess science is more rural than urban. Mr. Green

None of the Start treks are meant to be analyzed anywhere near that deeply. You really were bored.
These are pop-corn movies with a little social commentary mixed in. They have a shred more scientific credibility than Star wars but not much more.
AFA sci-Fi is concerned, Blade runner is about as pure sci-fi as I can think of top of my head l. Maybe a few others like Moon from last year. Pure sci fi is hard ot do and requires excellent story lines and good acting, things you don't normally see in an American made movie.

There was an episode of TNG in which a group of people are found in sus-animation,
each for different reason.
They are found by Picard and the rest and while getting use to the new time period
they will now live one of them asks what folks in this time do for a living to make money etc.
I believe Picard is the one who tells him in this time there is no need for money and everyone
is encouraged to full fill themselves.

The reality is Star Trek characters are in continual conflict with aliens(legal and Illegal) along with themselves,
and so all Star Trek is a hookie liberal view of Utopia and while I love the whole series and movies
I hope it is not the future.
There will always be conflict, controversy, racism, hate and all the good things too.
That's life, and how boring it all would be otherwise,no reason to have existence.

I would like to make one of the rooms of my house look like the bridge or something.
