1292 tubes in a G90?

I searched but didn't find much on this. Is this possible? My G90 green is around a 4.5 and I can't get anything close to white white even with the green gain maxed and red/blue turned way down. Time for new tubes but since I broke the bank buying the projector, I can't afford anything close to the normal going rate for LUGs. There is however a guy selling a bunch of 1292 projectors so I think I can score a set of tubes for very cheap. Thus, can I make those tubes work?
I realize I'm going to lose some light output on this but if I use all G90 electronics, will there be a noticeable drop in sharpness? I'm not that concerned about brightness as I only have a 100" screen in a completely light controlled room.
I realize I might need to mod the neck boards but my searches couldn't find a thread detailing the changes I'd have to make. Anyone have that info?
Anything else that might make swapping those 1292 tubes in difficult?

Thanks in advance!

What would you rate your red and blue? Why dont you look for a less worn green?? Should be heaps floating around, a member on here just did a change not long ago from a stack and the tubes looked fine to me...

My red is near perfect. The blue is around a 7 so if I keep the raster within the wear pattern I can get a decent white balance. Much better than my green which is a 4.5 at best. I haven't seen any single greens for sale in awhile so I just started to look for other options.

So.... Did the voices telling you to upgrade stop telling you yet?? Laughing

Get onto Curt, see if he has any P19 greens in better shape than yours, then save up for a set of near perfect P19s, or at least a near perfect blue and green. See how much for a rebuild of your green from VDC if they still do them.

Is the wear pattern pretty big on the tube face? Could you justify putting a near perfect green with that 7 blue and using that size raster? If not you may have to look at wear leveling the red and blue or getting someone to do it for you...

Yes , they wont work, the 1292 use 09MEX3 tubes. Different Bell housing shape and pinouts.
There is a set of LBP's in the for sale section from europe. Its a good price for three tubes. If you ever get those 0% checks from your credit card company and really dont want to miss out on a good deal use them and budget accordinly to pay it off before the 0% runs out.

The wear pattern on the blue is large and centered enough that I could run with it if I had a good green without having to wear level the blue. My main concern is getting white to look something resembling white....
It is too bad that the 1992 tubes won't fit. I had a 1292 at one point and other than a bubble of phosphor coming off of the green tube face, I was impressed by the sharpness. I probably would have been able to get a near new tube set for $200.
Getting my green tube rebuilt I sure is out of the budget. Those LPB tubes look good but I can't afford the set and others are in front of me if he decides to part it out.
I'll PM Curt but most likely I'll just have to live with it till either a very good deal pops up on a single tube or my financial situation changes. My fault for not looking close enough when I bought the projector.

CasetheCorvetteman: I think with a good green the voices will stop talking about projectors and start mumbling about the need for a Magnepan center channel speaker after which they might finally stop!
