|
|
This continue from my questions on avsforum.
I got a mint condition 6 pg + (I open the lid and there is zero dust inside, but I could be wrong)
Unit turn on, I can hear the fan running, but no light come out of tube.
Error code is 00, which means normal.
What should I do next?
I have no idea how to put up a test pattern, can someone give me a hint on the key sequence on the remote to do so?
Sorry, this is my first time touching a crt projector.
I did manage to read through most of the pg related docs on your site, but don't have a clue so far.

To fill others in, I posted:
Do you have the remote? The set is pretty useless without it. If you have the remote, put up a test pattern. If you get the test patterns, then you just need to send it a signal. The PG+ may or may not have a video/Svideo board in it. Feed it a signal from a laptop or PC via the RGB inputs. If you don't get an image, then you either have a bad deflection board or video output board that is killing the picture to the tubes. Feel free to email me through my site below for further troubleshooting.
Then GE posted:
Yes, it come with the full function remote and metal kit to hang it upside down.
When I push the button on the remote, I can see the light blinking indicating it is receving the signal.
I did hook up a laptop using RGBHV cable from vga output.
Currently no tube will come on (I looked through the lens)
I will post on your web forum too, thanks for your help.
What is the correct key sequence to put up a test pattern? I did read thrugh the install manual once, but can not figure out when I see nothing coming out of the tube.

OK, so now you have a component failure on either the video board or the deflection board. The only thing you can do is to send me the boards for testing/repair in a working set, as there's no further way to troubleshoot via email. Figure on $150-200 incl return shipping to repair them. Let me know.

Ummmm, I didn't read what went on over at AVS but did you check to make sure the pic is not muted or the tubes aren't turned off with the RGB buttons?

I have 2 identical units.
Both act the exact same way, what is the odd both have the same bad boards?
I have a gut feeling that I am not doing something right myself. I can believe one unit can have bad boards, but both units?
I got them in orginal box with everything (ceiling mount kit, full remote, etc.), I believe those units are never used or used very little.
I would like to do as much board swapping myself first to trouble shoot, before sending the boards to you (I honestly don't believe the boards are bad)
Thanks for the help.

Can you tell me how to check the "tubes aren't turned off with the RGB buttons"?
Also how to check the pic is not muted?
Thank you so much.

What resolution did you send from the PC to the projector?

Actually, now that I think about it, you would still have menus and test patterns so it's not that.

Unless you enable it, the pix or individual tube mutes are disabled every time you power down (and back up). Bad board are pretty common at this point in the PG sets, and a 'no pix with no error codes' isn't uncommon overall. Guaranteed you have a bad board in both sets.
You should instantly get menus of some sort when you press the 'test', or 'setup' buttons amongst others.

Ok, seller just emailed me, he found another set for me, I will pick up that one and see what happens.
Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Welcome to the club! See, you haven't even started, and have 3 sets. You'll fit right in!

Just carried 3rd set into my basement, did a quick check. Exact same issue, no tube will turn on.
Open up the lid, this set is also in mint condition, no dust what so ever on the cooling fans.
That makes 3 identicle projector with very little use and have same issue on the same boards, would that be possible? (or I am doing something wrong or over looking some thing very simple)

There is one possibility if the sets all came from the same place:
When the set is on, press 'ctrl' and 'display' at the same time. Actually, press 'ctrl' first, then 'display'. That toggles the onscreen display. Once in a blue moon it's disabled to prevent executives from messing with the set.

I just did what you posted, it did not help.
Yes, all 3 sets come from the same place. But they don't look like ever been used.
My guess is they got them, take out of the box, put on asset tag, put them back into the box and storage room.
Looks like the I am the first one to ever use the remote and inside is super clean. I don't know if they little fan under cover suppose to run all the time or not, but there is no dust on any of them what so ever.
Can all 3 projector die during storage? I am clueless, do you want me to send you the boards from all three units?

Good score overall! Yes, the NEcs are known for capacitor failures due to age at this point. It is strange that all three are doing the same thing though. Why not send me one set of boards, rather than wasting postage on all three? You can swap boards once one set is working to check the other ones, and we'll take it from there.
Shoot me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca and we'll discuss shipping and cost to repair.
Cheers!

No, what do you suggest, but the fact I can not even get test pattern up on all 3 sets really puzzle me.

It's been a little too long since I've fired up a 6pg to remember for sure. I do know I was using 640x480 to test it at the time though.
