Guys, I haven't read all the posts above, but this can be the Ya board, IC421 failure. Random error messages with no control over the iimage is exactly what I had on my first bad YA board problem. I'll catch up on emails tonight and tomorrow, and will read everything above.

macgyver, do you mean unplug only CN135 and leave the others plugged in or do you mean unplug CN135 aswell as 136 137 138 & 139?

It doesn't matter. CN135 will make the board dead.

Yeah, I've suspected 421 from the beginning. But it does have an odd twist so just trying to be sure.

Oh, and if it still shoots an 89 code with CN135 disconnected, leave it disconnected and also disconnect CN130 on the EBQ board and see what you get. I'm off line for the night.

OK, Mac, thanks a bunch... you had to post about a twist, so I had to read it.
I will stick by my diagnosis, a bad YA board. His first post is EXACTLY what I had happen.
Now FYI, I currently have SIX working G90s here. One will end up being a test chassis, as of right now three are sold. That leaves two to be sold complete, or parted out. Worst case, send me your YA board and I can test it in a working set here if you can't find someone to test it down under. Sending in the YA board isn't too expensive.

Okay gettingn the YA board out will be my biggest hurdle. It will have to come down off the ceiling because of where it has been mounted. Give me a week to organise myself and some friends to get it down and I'll get back to you.
thanks.

To lighten the load by 60 lbs or so, take the lenses off while its on the ceiling.

Well, that is the lot that sometimes fails. Hopefully it's not the IC421, but it is looking more likely. Try the rest of the diagnostics suggested here and see what happens.
Good luck,
craigr

How much for the YA boards? How can you offer a 1 year warranty if you don't know when they will fail? |
Folks who are interested may email for parts pricing after checking with Curt to see if he has any for sale. I offer a 1 year warranty on almost all parts I sell for the G90.
On YA boards I can fix any failure except the IC421 failure. I keep plenty of parts in stock for the G90 so I should always have replacements available. I really don't think the IC421 failure is very common so I can assume the risk for 1 year after selling a YA board and/or repair any other errors if they should show up. Worst case if I don't have a replacement YA board in the event of an IC421 failure I can issue a refund. I have however had at least one YA board in stock for the past 3+ years straight and I have four in stock right now.
Regards,
craigr

Most of the suspect lot IC421's don't fail, so even if you have this one you are most likely going to be ok. More than half of my clients have IC421's out of the suspect lot, and I have had only two clients IC421's fail (I maintain more than 50 G90's). The latest I have seen a suspect IC421 fail is 4400 hours. So if your projector has a lot of hours than the IC421 is probably ok. When I buy parts G90's I love getting ones that have 10,000+ hours just for that reason

We're just a TINY percentage of CRT owners here. There's literally 1000s still in use. I get emails weekly from either new customers, or even from customers that I've sold sets to over the years that are now upgrading to HDMI, or that have had a failure for the first time since they got their set. I send people weekly to the Moome site to buy external boxes.

I think mine only has 3k hours on it. It was lightly used by a little old lady from Pasadena. Actually, the only reason it came down was WAF, which I don't understand. I could see a wife bitching about it if it was in the living room, but if it is in a theater then what is the issue? Their loss and my gain.
The reason I am asking is I am now thinking seriously about keeping the G90. I may be in a position to use it, if I do what I am thinking of doing. I still can't believe the thought has entered my mind.

Okay macgyver I unplugged CN135 error 89. unplugged CN130 error 89 only this time it was flashing error 89 on and off. I'm scared now all this turning on the pj and shutting off again will harm the set. I think i'm just gonna pull out the YA board and send it to Curt
