|
|
My G90 had been sitting unused and unplugged at the mains for about 3-4 weeks and when I just turned it on the warm up picture was jumping around erratically for about 10 seconds until the PJ shutoff with orange error 68 . The PJ is mounted on the ceiling so is it actually 68 or is the error code 89.
If I have read another thread correctly I think it is actually error 89 which the service manual says something to do with the EBH board. Not being an electronic guru (soldering and such stuff) would replacing the EBH board fix this problem or could it be a problem elsewhere that is causing the EBH board to malfunction?
I feel I would be able to replace the EBH board myself, but as for repairing the EBH board I wouldnt know where to start.
I have taken a video of the problem to help explain myself better.
Thank in advance for any help or info.

Try swapping the EBH and EBQ boards and see what changes.

You may want to check the code number on ic421 on the YA board. How many hours on the machine?

Not sure thats a YA board implosion. My set never went into standby with this failure. I think its EBH board related as I seem to remember suffering similar problems 4 or 5 years ago. My memory is a little hazy but it was fixed without replacement parts or repairs. Try setting everything back to factory settings. You could be at the limit of adjustment on a particular setting and that triggers the error.
How many hours on the set and whats the serial number. Also worth checking to see if you have the problem IC421 serial number.
Let us know how things go.

I would suggest doing as the others suggest, but you may have a bad GA or GAA board. If Curt doesn't have them, I have them in stock.

About the hours and s/n. unfortunately when the dallas chip was changed the hours and s/n info was lost. I know before the dallas chip change there were about approx 4500 hrs. I would have only put about 100-200 on that. how do I do set everything back to factory settings if the pj only stays on for 10 seconds. that doesn't really give enough time to enter service mode hold reset for 5 seconds (or whatever the sequence is I forget) is there someway to do it without the PJ on (like a hard reset button).
thanks for all your info. I will change EBH and EBQ to see what happens. I read that the error will become 8A. If this is correct does that mean it is definately the EBH board?
thankyou once again. this forum is a lifesaver

I'm fairly convinced that is an ic421 failure but you can continue testing things. I can easily see an ic421 failure causing a code 89.
Disconnect CN137, CN138 and CN139 from the EBH board and turn on the projector. My guess is it will stay running without an error code but the picture will probably still be freaking out.

Check out this thread. Someone else had the same symptoms and fixed it by going back to factory settings. This reflects the experience I had with the error 89 issue.

And you're right this is an amazing resource.

I remember that thread very well. Actually I have had many an emails on the G90 89 code problem which seems to be very common. If it wasn't for the video posted I wouldn't be thinking ic421 unless he stated the pic was jumping around. The pic does not jump around with the regular code 89 and extreme settings. However the picture jumping from ic421 can cause an 89 code.
But I'm sure he is hoping I'm wrong.....

It could very well be an IC421 failure, but I have some hope that it isn't. I've seen this type of failure with power supply problems. Also, the way the image jumps is only in the vertical and not the horizontal. Usually with IC421 failures when the projector exhibits a jumping image, the image jumps with regard to ALL geometry controls, not just vertical.
If you need the YA tested you may ship it to me for a diagnostics. I would try the other suggestions first though and also getting us the lot number off IC421.
We'll see

BTW, I also have YA boards in stock if it is an IC421 failure. YA's come with a 1 year warranty.
Kind regards,

thanks for your quick replies. I guess i will swap the EBH and EBQ and see what error I get. I just have to grow a bigger set of balls first LOL.
If i swap them and I get Error 8A does that mean it is the EBH board?
cheers

okay i swapped the EBH and EBQ boards. same error 89 but it didnt even show the warm up screen. it just turned on and off. I read the other thread and also tried removing CN137 CN138 & CN139 from EBH.....same prob error 89, then i also removed CN136.....same error 89. I did however manage to get to service mode reset factory data but the PJ shutdown a split second after i pressed OK for the reset so i dont know if the adjustments were reset or not. should I have done the reset on the service data instead as when I did my setup I was in service mode?
anyway so swapping the EBH and EBQ still gave me error 89 so what would I try next?
cheers

I think reset to factory was the correct thing to do.
What is the lot number off your IC421?

How much for the YA boards? How can you offer a 1 year warranty if you don't know when they will fail?

One thing still seems a little odd here. Try unplugging CN135 on the EBH and see what code you get.
