Bought this deck from a place in the UK, its got the 240v power cord and obviously runs on 240v. if the internals of the deck do not have a switch for the voltage, how hard is it going to be to convert it to US 110v?

It comes sometime today so I wanted to get an idea of what this entails. I really dont want to buy a voltage adapter, and if I do modify the deck I would prefer to keep it looking as unmodified as possible on the outside Smile

Sometimes there's a tied off wire on the power transformer primary with the 110 volt tap. If there are only two wires out of the primary of the power transformer, you'll need to find a 110 volt power transformer. hopefully there's not too many secondaries coming out of it.

Or.. can you fit a small 110 to 220 volt transformer within the deck?

If it's the Asia model then it has a voltage selector switch. If it's the UK/Austrailian or European model then it uses a different transformer then the US and Canada models. No selector switch on these.

Oh, if that's the case, then I'll bet it's 220 only. Sad

I don't think you'll find a transformer like that, and I"ll bet it has several windings on it, like 15-0-15 volts AC, and then probably some other voltage, like 10 or something stupid. Maybe not though.

OK, well there are others on eBay, either cut the plug off and put on the one that will fit this adapter, or I'm sure the correct AC transformer version is there on eBay somewhere... Smile

Bought a Denon DRS-640 off ebay thats all banged up, but its US, it works, and has the transformer and power cord I need, and it will still all be denon. got it for $50 shipped so it was a better buy Very Happy

OK, judgement call here. A super nice deck, but is it all that compared to say a Nak 3 head unit?

Not trying to flame here, but I'm not familiar with that Denon model.. Seems like they go for big $$ though..

Cool, let me know. I have a middle of the road Nak, 3 head, probably a bit lower end than yours. I love that deck, but now it appears that one channel is dead in record mode.

Before that I had an Aiwa 6950 (I think that's the model). Paid $400 for it back in 1981. It was the first 3 head deck I owned, and the first cassette deck that I didn't hear the difference between LP and Cassette. Both those decks have seen heavy use, and the Aiwa is now toast, as the mechanism is impossible to get into. I got my money out of it though. It was the mid 70s deck with dual analog VU meters, one for RMS and one for peak readings.

Well I got the deck to part out the transformer & power cord, I swapped the transformers, and noticed the new one only has 2 pins on the primary vs 3 pins like the old one.

needless to say I went ahead soldered it all in and changed it over, and no power....

So I assume something is not right?? Confused

I've got it! I had to add the 3rd primary because the deck I removed it from did not use that, so denon cut it off. I added it and voila!!! we have a working mint DRS-810 that is now a US version Very Happy

WOOOT!!!!
