Just got these for what I think is a good price( $ 150) to replace my Phase Tech PC 1's in my Home theater. Hooked them up in his Garage and they sound Great. I'll sand them down and stain them Black or paint them flat Blak to match the Center Channel.

Best part is they are signed by the Owner Bill Hecht!!! He Inspected them.

Not a popular Speaker but those who know them love them. Extremely neutral
and clear. Phase Tech hold the patten for the soft dome tweeter and is a major manufacturer for OEM speakers to other brands.

Bills Signature....

Cool, I don't think I know anything about PhaseTech. What's the 70s looking speaker behind them? I'd say AR, but the grille cloth is wrong. Smile

Phase Tech is might be the largest manufacturer of Speakers in the US. They invented the Soft Dome tweeter. Another trade mark is there styrofoam filled cones. It is said to stop break up and cone distortion. They are one of the best of the unknown speaker brands .

I'll have to find more info on them.

That is an AR2 from 1959, it is the original cloth, they had a few different styles. Radio Shack Made a ribbon tweeter thad had the same cloth on it to increase the upper end. I tore out the 2 5 inch tweeters and put in a 1 1/2 soft dome, those cost more than what I paid for the speakers 12 years ago. I re did the cross overs and man they sound nice connected to the HH SCOTT 299C .

Here is the Info , Phase Tech is the "show room" brand for United Speaker Systems. Its not mentioned in the link but I know this from when I bought my first set years ago.

It began with the design of the successful Model XP-1 bookshelf loudspeaker for audio industry pioneer Avery Fisher in 1959. Continuing today with some of the audio industry's most well regarded home-entertainment speakers and speaker systems. United Speaker Systems, Inc. has earned its reputation as the "manufacturer's manufacturer."
With more than four decades of design and engineering innovation, United Speaker today occupies a special niche in the intensely competitive home-audio industry. It is one of the few fully vertically integrated speaker manufacturers in America still guided by its original founder.

United Speaker was started in 1955, the year before stereo was introduced. The company remains under the ownership and creative leadership of its founding family, with Bill Hecht as chairman and chief executive, and Ken Hecht as president.

The contract from Fisher in the 1950s put both companies into the home audio business to stay. Fisher became one of the industry's most enduring brand names, and United Speaker developed into one of the most innovative original-equipment manufacturers.

As United Speaker grew, its customers would come to include some of the most well respected names in the audio industry. These included Fisher, Yamaha, Sony, Pioneer and many others.

Both Hechts are engineers who are fully involved in the development of the home-theater, audiophile, and in-wall speakers that consistently earn critical acclaim in industry media.

Their products can be found today bearing some of the world's most famous brands. They design and produce stand-alone home-theater and audiophile speakers, full-scale home-entertainment systems, custom installed speakers for the new-home and manufactured-housing marketplace, and products for highly demanding automotive environments.

Pioneers of Home Audio

Bill Hecht's career began with his involvement in the development of Cinemascope stereo technology for motion-picture projection in the early 1950s. In the years that followed the successful introduction of the Fisher XP-1, United Speaker grew into a vertically integrated speaker manufacturing company.

The company's contribution to speaker development includes a remarkable six patents that were awarded to Bill Hecht and United Speaker for consistently advancing the state of speaker design and assembly.

The United Speaker patents include:

The industry-standard soft-dome tweeter, which is now commonplace in virtually all high-end loudspeakers;
The manufacturing process for solid, flat-piston drivers;
The self-damping woofer voice coil;
Silicone-injected drivers for resonance damping; and
The basket-less woofer/midrange driver mounting system.
Positive mounting system for in-wall speaker systems.
The company also developed many other important speaker technologies, including Unicell(tm) Zero- Diffraction acoustic treatment that prevents reflections off cabinet and grille surfaces.

Today the cornerstones of United Speaker Systems include contemporary research, practical design philosophy, self-sufficiency in manufacturing and an attitude of engineering in the service of fine music reproduction.

To serve its customers, United Speaker has grown to become a 60,000 square-foot ISO 9001 accredited facility in Jacksonville, Florida. This entire vertically integrated speaker manufacturer offers R&D, CAD/CAM design, administrative, and warehousing all under one roof.

Its corporate credo of full vertical integration is a sight to see. On one end of the factory floor, there is the custom-designed machinery that coats huge spools of copper voice-coil wire so the windings will self-adhere.

On the other end is a fully equipped wood shop with its mammoth four-head, 8 1/2 ton CNC router. When furniture grade wood sheets are clamped into the CNC, holes are routed into the fronts and backs and 45 edges are cut. The cabinet pieces are then assembled, with wood sections hand sanded and finished in a three-coat process.

There are three woofer production lines, two crossover lines, one dome tweeter line, three final assembly lines with quality-assurance inspection at every step of the process.

As United Speaker Systems enters it fifth decade of audio excellence, it is not only keeping march with the times, but leading the parade as well. With new designs targeting new markets, this manufacturers' manufacture is doing all that it can to advance the art and science of made-in-America audio.
