Mac,

I got the 2nd AVR 5805 in today! Unfortunately the side panels have some major goging in the rear of them, they would have made nice replacements.

I havent turned it on yet, because the face (like mine) needs the plastic frame assembly to be reglued to it. otherwise it doesnt look TOO bad Laughing

So I will try the board swap after I confirm the new one powers up, and mac, wth is your paypal email ???? Razz

Well... This is certainly good news!! After taking the outer casing off the new AVR, I found a few things, the display PCB was cracked over a few lines in the PCM so I resoldered those together, fixed the knobs, fixed the pushed in buttons, tightened some loose screws, oh... and did I mention one of the inner PCBs wasn't even half plugged in??

This is the result of my efforts Mr. Green :

Now all you have to do is try this main board in the other one and see if it turns on.

Mac, I wanted to know before I do this, will putting the good board in the non working denon possibly damage it in any way? I DO have 1 working one, and would at least like to keep that ratio Razz

However, I am tempted to try the board as well but I just wanted to be safe than sorry Smile

Actually I could not say that it wont damage it. But it's not likely. But your the one taking the gamble. The question would be to determine if the other one is worth bothering with not knowing how many more problems it may have. And the only way to know this is to try a known good main. It's your call. Try it or bail it. If your satisfied with the working one then leave it alone and sell the other one.

Like I said in the email. With warmer weather here and more coming, I'm not doing any repair stuff.

Just wanted to let everyone know who has been watching this topic, that I have gotten one of these units going, the other one is a parts unit that I will not be repairing. I have reassembled it back to one piece save for the board mac is sending back, after that I will be putting it on ebay, if anyone here is interested in the non working AVR 5805 let me know.

ALL of the parts that came with it are included, once you get the CPU chip replaced it should power on. Im not going to set a price on it, so instead I'll take offers from anyone who is serious about buying it.

If you get it working, you'll love it Mr. Green

Send it to Mac.

Or, list it on eBay, saying 'as is, it just stopped working' Very Happy

(hey, what's your problem, almost everyone else does it!)

It can be repaired but not sure if Jeremy wants me to post the particulars here.

Mac, by all means feel free to post them, I won't be keeping the receiver and if someone is interested the details will help. Besides, I should be the one asking if YOU want to post the particulars, since without you I don't think I would have found the cause. Very Happy

I'll give the short answer. It needs a new MCU and it "HAS" to come from Denon. I think it was like 120 bucks just for the chip.
