Mac, Just thought I'd let ya know that the CPU has arrived for the Denon. The packaging digi key had was awesome, and the packing from the original manufacturer is even more impressive.
I have opened the CPU packaging up, just took it out of the digi key box.
So whats the next step in this endeavor?

Stare at it lovingly while thinking: "WTF do I do with this?'

Okay,
looks like its time to get this topic started back up here
Just an update for everyone whose been reading, Mac repaired the board (and quite an amazing job he did at that!) and after installing it, it still did not fix the no power issue
Anyway, Mac if you are around, I am ready to continue on this epic journey

It didn't surprise me when you told me it still did not turn on. A cpu doesn't usually go bad all by itself. And more then likely was damaged by someone else trying to fix the original problem or the damaged power board.
Anyways, first thing you have to do is go back to the beginning and connect your DMM to the 3647 3638 board, CX054 connector, pos to pin 3 and neg to pin 4 and see what your DC is when plugged in and the power switch latched.

Mac, sorry it took a bit to reply here,
DC is 6.02V on CX054

Thats good. Right where it should be. This is with everything connected, right? And you don't have a standby led at the power button, correct?

Figured as much, nice to see one thing working on this beast anyway
Yep, that is with everything plugged in, and there is no red standby LED

Ok, on the digital board (3644) locate BB409 and BB410. This test will be with the receiver unplugged. Set your DMM to diode or continuity and connect 1 leed to pin 7 or BB409 and the other leed to pin 10 of BB410.
Now press the power button and see if the DMM shows short.

With the main switch engaged, and one lead connected to pin 7 on BB409 and one lead connected to pin 10 on BB410, pressing the standby/power button, it does not short out, it reads 562 (as it does before pressing the button and after)

Well thats actually good even though it's not working. Now your going to have to go to the front panel. Locate the board that has the on/off tact switch (3640). On that board is connector CX101. Again with DMM on diode or continuity, 1 leed in pin 6 and the other leed in pin 8, press that button and see if you have short.

No short between pin 1 and pin 6 on CX101 when pressing the power/standby button.

Ok good. No problem, as long as I keep catching your mistakes, LOL.
Now I'm going to give you 2 things to do and I'm going for dinner.
In that front panel is board number 3640-2. Locate connector CY272. Should be 27 pins. Test that power switch at that connector using pins 7 and 24.
Then I want you to set your DMM to DC and plug in the receiver and turn on the main power switch. Using pin 24 on that connector for ground then test with your pos leed for +5v on pins 22,23,26,27.
See you in a half hour.

Mac,
Pins 7 and 24 on CY272 when pressing the power/standby button do short out.
The readings on Pins 22, 23, 26 and 27 are as follows:
Pin 22: 0.0 Vdc
Pin 23: 0.0 Vdc
Pin 26: 5.35 Vdc
Pin 27: 5.35 Vdc
Took a while to verify what pins were what, but I do have the schematic here as well (that is about the extent of my abilities to read this ungodly complicated schematic ) so I was able to figure it out, I checked, rechecked, and then checked again to make sure.

Ok, something is not right with no short on pins 7 and 24 as these are connected directly to CX101 pins 6 and 8. So where going to test continuity again but no need to push the power button. This will be testing traces. So this time on that tact board (3640-2) your looking for short between CW101 pin 8 and CY272 pin 24. Then check between CX101 pin 6 and CY272 pin 7.
