Now if you want to verify a few more things before completely condemning the cpu, you can try hooking up that external power supply again just to make sure it still pulls down that voltage also.
Then you can try lifting pins on that CPU to verify the voltage comes back up. I can give you the pin numbers if you want to try that.

Ill go ahead and put the external PSU on the thing again and check it. I assume I can put the 2 capacitors, 2 resistors, and one diode back in?
Go ahead and give me the pin numbers, may as well see what I can try, its no good dead anyway right?

No, leave those parts out for now. Did you find that 8 pin header I said to look at?

Yes, the 8 pin header is fine, no bent pints , nothing touching

Take your DMM and set it on diode scale and test between pins 2 and 5 and give me the reading.

I'm signing off for the night now. You probably need a break also. Dont do anything more with it as I have an idea to try so we can have a fresh start tomorrow.
Just give me those readings you get now and I'll check them tomorrow.

Sounds like a plan to me mac, I did test pins 2 and 5 on the 8 pin connector on 3644 and it read 530 on diode,
Ill talk to you in the AM mac, thanks for your help so far!

So I believe you said that you are removing this CPU board when you work on it. Is it completely disconnected from the receiver when you do this?

The only way I can work on this board is to completely remove it, I dont know what it looks like on the schematic, but if you look you should see that this boards has about a dozen board-to-board connections on 3 different boards.
takes about 10 minutes to pull it out for me if I dont want to bend or break anything.
And morning Mac I see you've been waiting for me

Morning.
I want to investigate this a little further to make sure that CPU is definitely bad.
Also, the 6v line connects to the CPU in around 8 locations. Now it doesn't look like its a short to ground so it may only be 1 section of the CPU causing the problem. If we're lucky and that is the case we may be able to disconnect only that section and get the receiver to power up to see if it has any more problems so you can determine if it's worth putting more money into it.
So here's what we're going to do. Remove that CPU board completely. What we're going to do is hook up your external power supply directly to this board. This way you can test our progress without having to put it back in every time. Make sure when you hook up the power supply the connections are real good, even if you have to solder them on.
On the board look for (looks like) BB905. Should be a bottom socket. It has 11 pins. Pin 9 is your + and pin 10 is your -.
Make sure you identify the pin locations correctly. If your not sure then post back and I'll tell you how to identify.

Removing the board right now, I will post back once I get it out

Okay that went really quick, I guess Im getting better and better at working on this 3 dimensional cube of awesomeness.
So I see the connector, its a side mount connection. I have located pins 9 and 10 What now?

I assume those pins are what I am to connect the PSU to? Just want to make sure so I dont fry anything else

Connect your external power supply. Positive wire on PIN 9 and the negative wire on PIN 10. Make sure it's correct. And make sure it's a solid connection even if you have to solder them on. I dont want them coming loose as you flip the board around. They are going to be on there for a while.
