There was a person quite some time ago offered to sell me a set of HD-144s for $80 plus postage, in perfectly good condition... |
Never did a comparison of the HD-6 vs the HD-145's. SO I dunno (((shrugs)))

I have, but only on 240p material... couldnt tell a difference for obvious reasons... May as well be using TAC-4s on that, cause its not gonna matter

My 6PG xtra had TAC-4s when I bought.... it was terrible even with 480i, it was totally unable to focus the blue, it was at least twice as thick than the other colours, then I upgraded to HD-6C MLs this quite ok for 720P, but my friend had a 9PG xtra with original HD-145s, it was considerably sharper, also it did better 1080i than the Marquee 9000 which now he has...

Yeah but a comparable NEC will do alot of things better than a Marquee wont it.
When i compared the TAC-4s to the HD-6s i used them on the VPH 1001 QM with almost brand new tubes fed 240p on S-video and that was VERY sharp, putting a HD-6 on the green made no difference that anyone here could tell.
We didnt try anything 480i or 576i to see if it was note worthy there. That Sony will only do 15.75kHz, so 576i is the highest res itll show, 240p is what almost all console games were displayed in.
240p is not exactly a good res to prove sharpness advantages though...

Well, Marquees aren't that bad machines at all, unfortunately in that M9000 almost everithing is from the 9500 series except the video input board, and neck boards, we compared that machine to a M8110 as well, and that did better 1080i as well, because it had the newer video input board and neckboards. So really the M9000 was limited by its electronics, not the actual tube/lens resolution, it is just interesting that a NEC PG xtra could beat a "heavy guy" -but my PG with the HD-6s is far from that performance
I had some HD-6s... I sold them <3$/piece, two guys upgraded their 7" ES machine, and both of them reported enhanced overall focus compared to their TAC-4s

Also some fail to understand the difference between color filtered and color corrected. If you look thru the lens and it is either Green or Red they are color filtered Blue should be clear.... |
You're right. Its the color filtered HD144's that are the sought after upgrades to the HD8 lenses on Barco 808's. If the HD 145's are not color filtered then they have little to no value IMO as they don't rectify the poor reds on the Barco.

Going from HD-8's which were OEM on the Barco 808S to a nice set of HD-144's I saw a noticeable improvement in sharpness and color of course. This may be down to some lens elements being glass and not plastic as found on the HD-8's. One of the best upgrades I made, although they did require me to move the pj about 5" closer to the screen for the same screen size.
