i finally found a guy on videogon.com who was willing to help me out with my xg75. unfortunatly he lives 250 miles away in porter tx. but luckily i was in the houston area visiting family and managed to drop off my pj with him. he has a maquee and was eagerly happy to demonstrate it for me. WWWOOOWWW!!!!!!! I was astonished at the clarity and overall the picture was beautiful!! after seeing his marquee i realized my xg is pretty small. but he did say that i had a good pj and was happy to work on my xg. hes gonna set it up for 4:3 100in at 1600x1200 and then hook up the colormunki and do a calibration all for the price of $200! he did have another marquee he is selling and i might just try to get into that also.lol hopefully he does some magic with my wee xg75.

Why 1600x1200? Do you do allot of 4:3 stuff? I do, just wondering if you do?

he recommended that i set it that way since i was gonna be using a pc as my source. im not sure if my xg can resolve 1080p that well. i have read that 1080p on an xg puts out a soft picture. since i am still a newbie i went with his recommendations and after seeing his setup i am confident he will do a good job with my pj.

From what I have read the XG will do 1080p but you need to tweak the signal porches.

1080i 72 would probably look great

You may also want to consider 1440x960 for regular DVD.

720p ( 1280x720 ) is good too.

You'll have hours of fun ( and frustration ) with your system Very Happy

yeah hes gonna show me how to make adjustments but doing the set up was kicking my @ss. i was going cross-eyed with the test patterns. on top of that i changed out the tubes and the silicon was removed meaning the previous owner messed with the magnetics. better let someone with experience handle this. i have learned alot from this website and forum because i understood everything he was telling me!

Yeah, try setting up a blend!!! Wink

Just spent two days Longbow theater re calibrating the twins. The new i1 Display 3 Pro really helped out with consistency , especially the low end from 20 down.

But Marquee's are great PJ's and the NEC is no slouch either.

Hope you get it set to where you'll enjoy it. Right now mine is the best i got so far, still some tweaking left but i just watched an entire movie i was only planing to check out scenes i knew. looks great!! I tried something different this time a gamma of 2.4, sweet!!!

a blend could be possible. i have 2 991's ripped apart but could probably get 1 whole pj working but its gonna need some tubes. for now i'll start with the xg75 and go from there. i would like to do 3d and see how that would look. i was bidding on a zscreen on ebay but lost. but i was also reading i would need a green fast phosphor tube.

Art Sonneborn did, but he got rid of them years ago. It's completely do-able, all you need is patience..

Boilermaker has a NEC 1151XG LC Blend using the same TV-Ones I use.

From my observations its best to do a blend with LC units. The phosphor glow or halo effect of my AC units messes up the blend zone for the bright Ire's and very low Ire's. The LC eliminates the halo effect and therefore a cleaner blend zone.

Last night i spent a few hours recalibrating the twins using the new i1 Display3 since it does low end better than any other probe I have(i1 Pro, Chroma 5, Display 2. the only other probe I have that does almost as well is my home made HCFR probe.

Stack = two projectors throwing the same picture on the same place. They reinforce each other for a brighter picture. You "just" have to do your setup so they're exactly overlaid.

Blend = two projectors throwing different parts of the picture -- the left PJ shows the left ~2/3 of the image, the right PJ shows the right ~2/3, and the middle 1/3 "blends" together. Setting up a 2.35:1 blend maximizes the phosphor use on both projectors, giving you a great bright image. Setting up the blend well is a real challenge, though.

Ask overclkr about stacking. I think he started a thread on it. I just can't find it right now.
