I know that studios tell directors to cut films for XYZ-rated versions in countries ABC. I guess I just never noticed it before. A couple of months back I purchased Brotherhood of the Wolf for the wife. Its not available in Region-A (Blu-ray), so I got it through either UK or FR Amazon (Region-B). It played flawlessly in the $58 region free BD player.

After the movie, the wife noted that the BD differed in the ending in how the disposition of the beast. Wife naturally is referring to the difference in endings between this BD and her NA DVD copy. Now I wonder about other foreign films.

For instance, wife bought me The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy on BD, but I am sure this is the boxed set released for Region-A resellers and not Region-B. The same for Let the Right One In, which I have not watched yet (she wanted to watch Let Me In, first).

Anyone else buying non-native region BD's and noticing either a difference in editing/story with other region offerings, or with DVD versions?

Hi,

Differences between US and European version of the same film are very common and have been discussed since the VHS era. They are mostly due to different rating schemes. While the US market is quite tolerant towards physical violence scenes (Shooting, beating, blood etc.) the European market isn't. It's the other way around when it goes to sexual content or foul language.
If you want to look up specific movie versions I recommend this site: http://www.movie-censorship.com/
