According to the marquee manual appendix B.2 the HD10L lens is good for max horizontal screen W of 58" so yes it's short throw if you run a really small screen. If you go bigger there will be focus problems.
I don't know of any way to make the throw shorter on an 8500LC. For an 80" wide screen and normal HD10's it shows a TD of 104". The shortest throw will be an air coupled 8500 with HD144/145's.

@draganm
I searched around the web + forum..
Seems mostly the were swapped out with HD10 GT17 or HD10F optics.
In the Marquee Install Manual i read the HD10L Optics are long throw .. i am really confused.
But i guess best bet .. swap them out with GT17 optics.
Maybe somebody willing to sell me GT17 or maybe HD10F Optics??? (Gladly would pay for the extra shipping to Austria,Europe)
Cheers

The magnification for all HD10 series lenses that I have ever used or heard of is the same.
The only difference is the screen width for which they are optimized. The reason the 8500LC
has a longer "throw distance" is that it uses 8" tubes , which is the same as using a small
raster area on a 9" tube. The optics are the same in either case.
Point being - whatever lenses you mount on that machine, it will still have a long throw distance.

@zGman
Thanx for your input..
Question is which Ratio is now correct???
1,52:1 ???
And am i correct that GT17 or HD17F would give me better corner Focus / image Quality

Builddate of the Machine is October 1996

Well, well... it is a bargain if the filament voltage is not around 7V, did you measured it already? The '96-'97 made EH's can have bad PSU causing too high tube fillament and therefore premature tube death even if tube face looks pristine, check it for the emission, or G2 settings!
On the other hand probably you can achieve shorter throw with a HD-10L lenses, and I am sure it won't be hard to trade your GT17, AFAIK the HD-10L is just as good as the GT17 but for smaller screens. the two types which are differs in performance in the HD-10 family are the HD-10F (best) and the plain HD-10 which was the first in the line.

You know - it can be a good idea to get the pj running and do a setup
with an hd input and be certain you know all the menus work and
how the pic looks - BEFORE(!!!) starting in on taking it all apart and
soldering boards.
G
Also -
""On the other hand probably you can achieve shorter throw with a HD-10L lenses""
This is simply not the case - the throw remans the same. HD10L are just optimised
for very small screens.

Well the fun was shortlived..
Tried the Marquee at home tonight, started without any trouble...
I noticed some Corner Focus issues in one corner on the Green Tube.
After 1 hour tinkering (in the menu) i turned it off again and removed the Plastic Chassis and Top Hood so i can paint in tomorrow.
3 Hours later, the Marquee wonīt light up anymore.
Can power up / power led is green no picture.. heard a short buzzing in the region of the blue tube and a relay clicking.
After that i powered it down again before some board gets toasted.
Any suggestion what i could check??
Cheers
Bodi79
Btw. checked all Boards visually i canīt find anything on there which could short out.
Maybe a g2 line issue??

Check your bellows condition with a strong flashlite - if they are 'sweaty' than you may need to be
concerned about glycol getting in the power supplies and motherboard, which can cause
no end of mysterious problems. You can feel glycol even when you can't see it because it is
slimey slick. Good luck!

Marquee trouble shooting step No.1.:
push all socketed ic harder to their socket, and reseat all board and daughterboard
Also check your PSU if all the voltages are right, you can see the PSU error leds through the front grill, if any of the leds come on or blinking, then something wrong with the boards.

| the deflection processor board on the CLM is bad,or it's connection the main board is dirty, or chip U7 needs to be pulled with a proper tool and de-oxidized.

@DraganM
Will check the U7 chip.
Have possible every chip removal tool , cause i am working in the BGA and Chip Rework Business
I just checked again after the Machine cooled down.
When the Marquee's cold the picture is "normal" for about 20-30mins than the whole green menu starts running up.
Another thing i noticed on the Green tube i got extreme un-sharpness , will make a photo tomorrow.
Cause i am not sure if it is blooming.
Thanx again
Bodi79
P.S.: At least i am happy that the machine does something again
