The G70 will oook amazing at 720P and easily beat your old LCD's and DLP's. The G90 will take it up another notch to 1080P but realistically IMHO the improvement is no more than 20% and probably closer to 10% in sharpness and light output (raging argument starts now LOL).
So like audio where doubling the money only bumps up the performance a little bit it's up to you to decide what kind of $$ value those improvements are worth.

Don't forget MP and CIR are working on mods that are real game changers for the G90. Forget 10-20% improvement over the G70. I've never seen a G70 in operation so can't comment relative to that unit, but in my modestly setup G90 I would guesstimate at least 50-75% improvement in sharpness and resolution. Craig can probably give a more empirical number to the improvement with all his test equipment.
Personally speaking if I were starting from scratch I'd buy a G90 with good tubes, get the Moome IFB HDMI card, MP's mods and if you're really feeling flush, the Lumagen radiance XS+ for the 72Hz signal. And of course budget for a professional setup once everything is in place, to get the system dialed in properly.

At this point I don't think anyone is going to want to take your G70 on trade since no one is 'downgrading' to a G70. Why not set up your G70, learn it really well, then down the road upgrade to a G90?

I've got a g90 coming in before Christmas sometime. It will be about $4K or so, but it will have new tubes.

$4K for a G90 with new tubes would be a killer deal especially if they are the high rez simulation parts. Are you throwing in a new DALLAS chip too...lol?
What tubes will you be putting in the chassis Curt?

I am very skeptical of those numbers. I don't see how a slightly larger tube could be 50% sharper. 50% sharper than a G70 would be beyond what even the best 1080P LCD's or DLP's can do.

Well, you know the optics are a lot better, and since you have about 40% more tube area
there is less magnification needed. But I thing Haydn was just trying to give his impression.

The g90 with the HD10F lens will provide better focus than the G70; I think 15-20% we be a more reasonable figure

Maybe my post wasn't clear. There is definitely an improvement going from the G70 to the G90 considering the better optics and 9 vs 8" tubes, electronics etc. That goes without saying. I've never seen a G70 so if you say 15-20% comparing a stock G70 to a stock G90, you may be right.

The arbitrary figure of 50-75% also factored in the differences Mike Parkers mods bring to the table. The improvements going from the stock BA board to the modded BA on my G90 at 1080P were not subtle. Craig is in a better position to quantify these effects with real numbers.

well OK, so you have a modified video board, better lenses, no gullwing geometry issues and a larger tube. I'll go 25% max, that's my last offer Mr. Green
It would be intersting to see Craig put a number on it though.
