Just got a netbook with Win7 Starter. What a waste of time.

You can't even change the desktop background.

Looking for XP drivers for this netbook right now.

What brand? You can probably upgrade it free to ULTIMATE with the industry key for your brand.

Go here and use the oem key for your brand.

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/10370-Windows-7-OEM-SLP-Key-Collection

Use the anytime upgrade option built into your windows starter.

I think that the skins are changeable on those, so I did think about it. But.. $250 cash talks lots... esp. when attached to a woman with massive cleavage. I think I scored an 8 out of 10 in keeping eye contact though. Smile

Right, use the anytime upgrade built into windows and one of the acer keys I linked you to. That will upgrade you to the version of your choice... I suggest ultimate.

Dude, it's an ACER! Of all the laptops I've had here, the Acers are the worst, cheapest quality. Sorry to piss in your cornflakes, but it's true. The price is right, but I give it 18 months to 2 years tops.

If you can get a 3 year extended warranty for it, in this case I'd do it.

I could have gotten a 3 year money back destroy it warranty for $130 BUT at only $190 I decided to take my chances.
My last netbook was an MSI. Had it 18 months, knocked it off the arm of the chair a dozen times or so. It still works I just wanted faster graphics.

By the time I kill this one there should be another netbook, with 1080p graphics and a faster dual core for about $200 Very Happy

No Jeremy is researching the system requirements for Ultimate vs. Premium, the driver availability for the Hauppauge 950 ATSC dongle I have and whether or not my other stuff will work right in which OS version.
Looking before I leap.

Also looking at a 4gb memory upgrade.

I'm eyballing the WinXP SP3 Home disk I have on the shelf over there too Wink

Same exact drivers and system requirements as long as you don't leap between 32 and 64 bit. No difference, just enter the key and everything will be the same except you will be ultimate instead of starter.

The keys are oem SLIC keys and cannot be black listed by MS because you have an oem machine running oem windows with an oem SLIC. The key works with the SLIC in your bios and can be used on any acer with the bios SLIC for win7.

It is a loophole that MS has that they don't really want you to know about. After entering the key you may continue to use windows update and all other features normally. It does not make your notebook a pirate machine or anything.
