hi all, i have the chance to pick up a thorens td125 without arm for 150 euro.

i know everyone recommends the sme3009III tonearm but are there other alternatives or even better sounding arms?

it will be used with a low mc output cartridge (probably zu audio from ebay).

I agree with Nash. Rega makes a nice arm.

SME is incredible if you do not mind the price tag......

I love that site and their upgrade policy regarding needles.

Right now I'm looking at a Systemdeck IIx with no arm. Looking into fitting it with an Air Bearing Linear tracking arm.

Or I might fit my AR XA with it after I figure a way to add it to the suspension. I think I have the logistics figured out in my head on how to add this baby!!!

Its the least expensive LT Air Bearing Arm I have seen.

I Found a site where they show the build of one with angle aluminum and some other off the shelf parts. Eventualy he made a nice marketable arm, too much money for me though.

Looks cool

look on diyaudio for many more ideas and it is probably a whole lot cheaper too.
don`t underestimate the diy tangential arms as they can be every bit as good as their 10 times more expensive counterparts, commercially available that is.

ladegaard tonearms are a big thing on diyaudio.

for a pivoting arm the thomas schick arm are one of the very best according to some very experienced listeners and vinyl lovers.

the lower end Rega arms are not that great. The plastic end-stub on the back of the arm acts as a resonator and needs replacing. The other big problem is the internal wiring harness has too many transition points and causes a lot of impedance mis-match. All of this can be fixed but it adds to the cost of the arm significantly.
