So I'm looking at an old photo album and find this picture of my nephew and off to the right my home theater projector from 1986. Look in the background and you can see the Sears stereo playback VCR that I payed $800 for. Cool stuff back then.

I didn't even have a VCR until 1989.
Did the nephew inherit the pj?

Nope. I sold the projector back to the founder of ESP for $1250. He had started another company named Chromalux and was modifying ARays to scan up to 64kHz. That was probably about 1988. How much is $1250 in 1988 dollars, now?

Didn't even know there is something bigger displays than 24" crt those days.
My father bought SABA stereo vcr back in -84 when I was eight.

It was build like tank using JVC tape mechanism, had manual settings for audio input level and wireless remote that was pretty uncommon those days.
It served us about twenty years, reeling motor was chanced once about after 10 years service.
If I remember correct it cost something like 6300FIM that would be $2800 these days.

Best decision I made was not to spend $2700 (in 2011 money) for a Sony superbeta VCR. It was the one with the cool slide out drawer mechanism. I did drop $3600 on a Mac SE.... doh. How times have changed.

Believe it or not, I grew up in a home with no TV. We read as kids. The neighbor gave me an old 12" B/W Admiral TV for me to play with. Since we didn't have cable, and were up against a mountain, antenna reception sucked bigtime.
That was in 1979, I was in grade 10. Working on that little set though got me hooked on repairing TVs, and look at the trouble that THAT got me into!
Here's the latest recycler find. A mint Nak 700 cassette deck. $10 cost, $157 selling price on eBay. 1/2 hour worth of testing and cleaning.

I can top that...I bought one of these babies when I was a Senior in high school 1975, it was only black and white but instant home movies and video playback man was that cool. I'm pretty sure the unit is still at my folks house.
By 1981 I had a top load VCR, it was mono it had click tuners.
I think I bought a HiFi VHS by 1986....I used it a lot for making audio tapes...It had really decent frequency response.
