|
|
I have a friend with a Nec 9PG that I installed about 5 years ago. The projector has recently had problems syncing to its input signal when its cold. The projector runs at 3 resolutions depending on the source.
1) 1280 x 720 p @ 60Hz
2) 1280 x 720 p @ 50Hz
3) 1280 x 720 p @ 48Hz
The projector is normally fed from a Lumagen HDQ via an HDFury2 to 5 BNC inputs.
Basically when the projector is switched on at first it is unable to lock on to any signal.
After about ten minutes it is able to lock on to a 60 Hz signal but not 50Hz or 48Hz.
After a further five minutes it is able to lock on to a 60Hz signal or a 50 Hz but not a 48 Hz.
After a further five minutes it can handle 60Hz, 50 Hz and 48Hz without issue.
The projector will continue to work perfectly as long as it is not switched off and allowed to cool down.
I have also fed the projector from a PC with appropriate resolutions and refresh rates with exactly the same results so I am happy that there is no problem in the video chain before the projector.
Has anyone any idea what might be wrong. Power Supply ? wave board ? System board ?
Could this simply be a dry joint somewhere.
Any help would be much appreciated. We don't want to go down the route of a bulb projector just yet as there is plenty of life in the tubes.

I've found that the NEC PG units are going down regularly now due to aging parts. Most likely it's the system board. It's a PWC 3717?

thanks Curt.
The obvious question then .......
Do you have a system board available or is it time to start changing the caps ?

It's best to send yours in first to confirm the issue. If I can repair it, you save yourself the hassle of a full convergence. Shoot me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca
Thanks!

My problem was the same. I found it to be the Video board. There were leaky caps all over that one. I say send curt all the boards and have them redone. It is at that age now.
