Probably not. The G-2 circuit doesn't have any film caps, all of those are in the power circuits where there are higher currents. G-2 circuits have very small currents so the caps are not as critical.

Thanks guys, I've bitten the bullet and decided I'll stick with the polyprop. Even though I have to pay more its worth it 'just in case'.

Hi Athanasios,
Sorry to be a pest (again!). Rather basic question if I may.

In an earlier post, I noticed you had changed the R2 and R6 resistors on the HVPS to Ohmites as shown here;

Now, having previously read up on HVPS resistor changes I understood these resistors to be 270kohm 1w, 270K Ohmite part number OX274K as per Jaehongs post at the other place here http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?postid=3795564#post3795564 . So far so good.

Unfortunately, I could not find part number OX274K anywhere, not at Newark or Digi-Key for example. Hmmmm. On checking the Ohmite catalog, I did find OX274K listed (on page 49) but as a 2w resistor although the OX series is normally 1w!??

Ok, I then thought maybe the catalog and Jaehong are wrong (somewhat unlikely to say the least but worth a try) and tried to find a 2w 270k OY series resistor and bingo! I found that there is one, OY274k - aha!!!

However, having looked at your modded HVPS above, I see that the color bands are red, brown, yellow and silver, BUT they don't match the OY resistor colors shown on DigiKey as red, PURPLE, yellow, silver http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=OY274K-ND .

So, I'm lost. Is there such a thing as a OX274k and if its the one shown in your HVPS, where can I get some? (Maybe the color on your resistor is actually purple and not brown and it really is a OY274K- trick of the light maybe?).

Thanks,
Paul

Looks purple to me.. That was my case also, there was no 1w 270k ohmite. So i used 2w one.

You reckon thats purple in the picture!!?? I'm doubting myself now, you sure it looks purple? Ok, hang on a moment.

Ok, back again. Just zoomed in on the picture - that has to be brown surely? Either that or my eyes are wonky Smile

I think it should , but then people who have not been on in awhile would be looking for it and wont be able to find it under a new name, so maybe it could have something added to it or maybe change it slightly. Something like this....

Marquee maintanence group Purchase and upgradeable parts thread.

Marquee maintanence group purchase and Performance enhancement thread

I like the last one best and i can summarise here all teh stuff i have done once i get the time and ambition.

Athanasios ,
since you are the main contributor,
would you volunteer to put the info in a concise document?

then we can start a new thread called " Marquee Performance Enhancement."
I have some ideas to contribute as well.
I'd do it but i simply don't have the time these days. Too much on my plate with Moome boxes and other projects.

I was planning on it , It be great to hear your ideas and others like 9kids idea about the bypassing of the dc block cap when only useing the moome internal card, I tried it and it looks good.
I might start with a review of the HVPS and LVPS since i think that is the easiest mod and then build up in level of dificulty to help build up the confidence in those who are just learning. This is how it happened for me, a year ago i never thought i'd be doing what i am doing now. there is lots of info from some very smart and creative people on these forums that I have gotten all of the info , credit and my thanks goes out to them. Some do not frequent the forums any longer and I wish they still were around to pick their brains somemore like KBK, Jeahonglee, chris johnson,Mcpherve, Bblue the late MrKing and others.
TSE and WTS have given me advice and encouragement along the way and kinds words from other memebrs as well that keep me motivated to do research and try new things.

agreed.
It sure would be nice if it were all in one nice tidy package instead of spread all over the place in little juicy tidbits.

this is what I did with the Marquee maintenance thread. Which probably should be updated...

Thanks for the precise clarification guys, thats one minor panic resolved! Just could not figure that one out for the life of me. Glad to know I don't have to go out and buy a new set of contact lenses! Thats some whacked out camera though, no chance it could make be better looking rather than simply changing the colors I suppose??!! Very Happy

Great idea about revamping the maintenance thread. If I can help in some way please let me know as its my fault that some of he threads went off topic due to my jumping in with indirectly related questions. Please accept my apologies for this.
Many thanks again,
Paul

No worries Paul, 14 months ago I was just like you. Unsure about the simplist things and asking offtopic questions while I had the forum members attention. That However, helped me learn many things on these forums. With regards to resistors from what i have heave read going up a bit in wattage wont really hurt. its when you go way up or just down it can cause problems.
