When calibrating a system comprised of a 9500LC, Moome and Radiance XS+ I'm curious about the hierarchy of adjustments.

For example, would the G2 drive be adjusted prior to any of the XS+ CMS controls?
Is the gamma boost adjustment on the Moome card still necessary and if so, when would that be adjusted?

Hello

Start at the start, confirm that the filament voltage is at spec 6.35v, then magnetics, confirm appropriate throw distance, tube pivot, H size near 90, rasters centered in the phosphor, lens focus, G2s and color temp, grab beer and then............watch something Smile

Tim-

I'm looking for a little more detail on the specifics of adjustment on the Moome and Radiance and how all of the pieces fit together. I'm already up an running but would like to really dial things in now. As you know, I'm gunning for a Radiance XS+ but would like to know how all of this works in harmony.

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

The best way i found to do the calibration with that combo is to set the moome's Gamma completely off.
I now use the Marquee control program to do the calibration of Just the PJ. I hooked up my BD player directly
to the PJ and used the AVCHD 709 Disc using 30% and 100% make sure you keep the same color space out of
the BD player as you plan to go out of the XS. The reason you use 100% is because the Radiance will need to have the head room
for 80-100 of the PJ. Jim from Lumagen and Scotti at Spectracal both suggest using 100% when using a VP in the chain.

I like using the Marquee Program better than the remote because it keeps the menus off screen and does not contaminate
the readings at all. its a pain to hit the mute button to close the menus as you will loess track of where you are. With the program
its much easier and you get more resolution in the adjustment controls.

Once you get 30 and 100% down hook up the radiance and calibrate as you normally would.

Whats the best way to tell if its completely off? With the flaky remote control communication, I don't trust any of the adjustments I make from the remote. Is there a set screw on the back plate that should be turned completely counter clockwise or is there an adjustment on board itself?

I first use the remote the turn the screw clockwise for about 20-25 turns. Counterclockwise is what adds Gamma boost IIRC.

What do you mean when you say "30% to 100% and same color space from BD Player"? I don't have a BD burner therefore the free AVCHD 709 From AVS site is not an option. I was hoping I could use the DVE BD.

You can burnt he AVSHD disc to a regular DVD that will play in your player, i also use the DVE disc but I really like the
AVS HD disc better. they added some nice patterns for my blend or 2.35 and 2.4 set ups.

30% and 100% reefer to the greyscale patterns as a % of white.

BD players can output either YcBcR 4:2:2 or YcBcR 4:4:4 or 4:4:4 rgb color spaces. You need to find out what
you player is outputting and set the XS to accept that input and output the same to the Moome.

Sorry to jump in..

Nashou66 What Gamma do you shoot for?
Iv always liked my Display Gamma at 2.35..

I have my lumagen Radiance set to 4:2:2 out + Dither set to off then the Radiance is supposedly ment to output 4:2:2 @12 bit
but the Moomie V2 12 bit LED doesn't light up, With the above settings does any one with A Radiance get the Moome 12bit LED to light?

Jase..

Thats what I try to shoot for too, I found 2.2 is a bit washed out and sometimes it causes posterization from the radiance due to the bit rate and amount of correction. Yeah for some reason I have had issues there as well but I have the Tv-Ones int he chain so I always thought it was that. I have to output rgb 4:4:4 from my tv ones to the Moome cards, for some reason YUV 4:2:2 is not correct in the Tv-Ones. The TV one does a really good job tho of changing from 4:2:2 to RGB 4:4:4 .

And 2.4 gamma is too dark and blacks were crushed and i found myself clicking up brightness a few notches which then
washed out the colors a bit too much, 2.35 is the perfect compromise in my set up.
