|
|
Hello
I have the possibility to buy at low price Barco 708, but the seller does not know how to check if everything is ok (He does
not know how to calibrate). Projector turns on fine, all the lamps lit (not calibrated). Barco previously
been used in a pub (watching football).
What should I tell him to check on distance the most important things (that was easy to check)?
Some pictures from the auction:
I greet with Europe (sorry for the broken language )

You can ask the seller to remove the lenses and post a photo of the tube face. this way you can see the tubes condition.
Other than that, you can ask him to play with geometry menu and convergence menu and take pictures of the tube or screen at extreme positions, just to make sure these controls work.

OK, So I ask the seller to remove the lens and took a picture. Then I compare them with pictures on this page - http://www.curtpalme.com/TubeCondition_RatingChart.shtm
As for the geometry of the menu, the seller will not know how to do this.
Anyway thanks for the reply

you can tell him exactly what to do.
for example:
Adj--> random access--> geometry--> raster shift --> left arrow set to zero , take picture
Adj--> random access--> geometry--> raster shift --> right arrow set to 100, take picture
not that difficult.

Can you tell me how remove the lenses - simply unscrew the screws are there any brackets or something else?

4 in the corner hold it on, the wing nuts you see on the top are for focusing.

Thanks
I have another question on the availability of components. How much expensive tube (used but in good condition) for Barco 708 + shipping to Europe?
I read that this model is hard to find the equivalent.

Hi,
I'm not quite sure about it, but the specs of similar models suggest that it might be possible to use 07MS tubes instead of the T180. I never have seen T180's showing up anywhere and they seem rare to me too. On the other hand used 07MS tubes in good condition and moderate pricing show up quite frequently even on eBay in Europe...
Regards,

Pretty sure the 708 uses the same tubes in a Dwin.
I have some low hour ones packed in a box, nobody seems interested in them. I would imagine they aren't that hard to find.

So 07MS enter without a problem as T180 without any modifications - yes?
@TheVerge
Could you tell me how much it would cost such a set of tubes (or separately ).

Hi,
This is almost exactly the opposite of what I wrote. I wanted to suggest that there is a remote possibility for the tube swap between T180 and 07MS.
Without knowing more (mechanical drawings, schematics, knowledge from others etc.) it is impossible to find out if it can be done.
For example I already found some contradicting information:
- Like TheVerge already stated the 708 uses the same tubes as the Dwin 500
The Dwin specs (on Curt's site) state that the Dwin has electromagnetic (EM) focus
This would suggest that the T180 tubes have a long neck for mounting EM focus coils
07MS tubes would never work because they are designed for ES focus (short neck).
- The specs (on Curt's site again) state that the 708 has electrostatic (ES) focus
This would suggest that the T180 tubes have a short neck and it matches with the 07MS tubes (ES focussed too)
It is uncertain which of the following statements can be proved true:
- The Dwin 500 specs are incorrect
- The 708 specs are incorrect
- The T180 tube can be used with EM and with ES focus
Therefore we have some questions to solve before your statement is valid...

The charts also say that the 701 can come with both the T180 or the 07MS so I pick 3 in your statement.

Hm,
As you like...
Although the chart doesn't say anything about different or equal neckboards and the PJ in question is a 708 and not a 701. I just didn't want him to take things for granted that haven't been verified yet...

Actually the question pertained to tubes and comparison to EM and ES which the 701 was only ES so that would indicate that both tubes are ES capable which would then pertain to his 708.
Did you follow that one?

if the tubes on the barco are not good, forget it. you dont want to be changing the tubes on those, its cheaper and more practical to just buy complete projectors, not many ppl really want those anyway. and these small barcos have a tendency to "fry" hv parts quite often and repairing is not that easy or cheap.
if You can get one with great tubes for 100 euros, buy it and enjoy it while it lasts, when it breaks sell it in parts and get another or a better one.
