I have several questions regarding raster setup, especially on BArco models:
1) Is it ok to set the raster to exceed the tube surface as long as the picture itself doesn't exceed the tube face?
2) in the Barco menus there are two menus that control the raster shift, the installation menu, which doesn't take into consideration the input resolution and the random access menu, using the geometry for the green raster and the coarse convergence for the red and blue rasters. am I missing something?
3) In the convergence procedure, both the coarse convergence and the middle zone convergence move the raster. which one of these should I use to center the red and blue rasters?

Thanks,
Or

Yes, it's ok.

Installation menu is only used if you don't have source connected.

Both control same chips, so it doesn't matter.

In theory you should get best result when you set R/B center zones to 50/50 after you have done convergence and use potentiometers at boards to make centerings.

Ile,
Thanks again for the patience and the detailed answers.
Regarding 3, you said " In theory", let's say I want to get the best without popping the hood.
I want to center the R & B raster and then aim the guns to get equal spacing from right and left comparing to the green.
If I understand correctly, the coarse setting and the center zone convergence do exactly the same thing ? cause now I'm confused, if I use the coarse adjustment and get the raster centered, I'll spoil that when I try to converge the center zone.
Again, what am I missing?

I would use the trim pots (on the H-shift and V-shift) board to center the red and blue raster with respect to the center of the tube. Then align the red and blue with green by aiming the tubes and finally use the convergence controls for the finishing touch.

Same here. I'd do the same.

When maximizing phosphor usage, it's usually needed to center rasters horizontally and aim guns mechanically again after full geometry and convergence adjustment. This is because you have first centered wrong shaped R/B rasters, convergence reform R/B differently so gap to left and right tube edge aren't equal when you are ready. There could be few mm difference and with maxed out rasters this is not good thing.

Then it's needed to tweak focus, geometry and convergence again. Very Happy

I have a 1209S and the red raster isn't responding to electronic controls. The blue and green move up/down and left/right properly. I reseated the boards when I got the unit. I haven't tried the manual pots yet but I will need a small amount of electronic control right?
