|
|
Just received a Vision One Case from Curt and before painting it I have been trying to figure out exactly how it fits together and is secured to the chassis. Specifically I’m trying to figure out how to properly secure the front face plate (holds the ACON and covers the power supplies) and the front cover for lens/bulkhead.
The holes on the cover(s) do not seem to align with holes on the chassis. Does anyone have a Vision One manual or can provide insight on how to put it together?
Not sure if this makes a difference but the case did not come with the lower aluminum side panels, therefore I'm using the stock Marquee type.
Thanks,
Justin

Justin | well it's molded fiberglass so no they don't really line up. Uusually they have bigger holes and then use washers around longer sheetmetal screws. The sides go on first AFAIR, then the top, then you have to push/pull/flex to get it it all lined up.

So basically, the typical Vision One chassis is more than likely to have additional mounting holes drilled into them. I find it hard to believe that there is much (if any) difference between one aluminum Marquee chassis and the next. Fiberglass is a PITA, so I can easily see differences between one cover and the next.
What it sounds like is that the chassis (not the cover) needs modification. Oh, sounds like I’m going to have a fun weekend…lots of beer and four letter words

The factory chassis pieces and plastic molded covers are pretty precise. The Alum. chassis in particualr is extruded Alum. sections with secondary machining.
I'm not sure about drilling holes in the chassis. You don't want to hit a power supply or motherboard, backplane, etc. The fiberglass covers should be close, if they fit the previous marquee they should fit yours.

I'm going to take photos tonight because it really seems off. I understand the need to use spacers and such to eliminate gaps but when the holes don't line up laterally it's very confusing.

Sorry, I meant drilling holes in the fibreglass case.....Usually they are only off by 1/4" or so from the originals.

Hello
Use the Vision case as your template and drill into the chassis where needed. Don't go nuts, only drill in one half inch into the metal.

There is no doubt that Vision One chassis had extra holes drilled at the factory to accomodate the case. I have put together the case and without a doubt will need to drill 2 holes on each side of the power supply bay walls. There is no way the holes line up. In fact, there isn't even holes drilled in the chassis at all to accomodate the power supply cover near the PJ feet...
I'm going to do all of this before I paint it so I don't screw up the finish putting it back together.
