|
|
My PJ was working fine until 3 days ago.
I started noticing running green lines on very dark scenes. it also seems like the PJ is trying to sync to a different frequency, like the signal is lost and the geometry changes.
my video chain includes an I-star H6 media player (popcorn 110 clone) connected via HDMI to a pioneer LX70 receiver connected via HDMI to an external Moome card V2 and then RGBHV to the projector.
My viewing room is quite hot and the PJ fans work very hard, could that be the cause for the problem, could a bad capacitor or resistor in one of the boards might be causing this problem?
Any ideas are welcomed.
Thanks,
Or

Could also be source related, so swap red and green bnc cable at projector input to see if noise goes to red.

Does the green tube fully turn off after adjusting the G2 ? Sounds like a bad video amp on Green so try a swap with the Red or Blue. If the trouble follows to the other tube its a bad neck board but if not you could have a contamination short in the CRT tube

Ile,
Good idea, I'll check that in the evening.
Tom,
Would a shortened green tube show a picture at all? I have noise only in dark scenes.[/u]

OK,
Good to know.
What about the fact the PJ changes the geometry and tries to re-sync, doesn't that tell us something?

Like already said try swapping the cables. When your projector has no input is the Green CRT still glowing with retrace lines ?
Check all the above....

Tom,
I think the lines appear when a source is disconnected as well.
However, you guys gave me several things to check. I'll try these options and return to update later.
Thanks,
Or

Sounds like a G2 short on the Green CRT but you need to do some testing first.
The whole sync thing is a bit weird. Curt might have a better idea....

Well, it's not source related. I swapped the red and green inputs and the green is still noisy.
Tom,
Can you give me some details, how to test the G2 for the green tube?

Yes, there is a sudden noise, every half hour, like something snaps, I think it's probably arcing .

Have you tried swapping neck boards (RGB amps) yet ? You should have mentioned the arcing problem before this....

I haven't tried swapping the boards yet.
I really wasn't sure it was arcing, it just makes sense right now.

The arcing may well be going on at such a level that you cannot hear it most of the time. This arcing could be causing the noise you are seeing. That loud snap would suggest checking the HT lead where it is attached to the tube and also that the earthing wires are properly attached.

Well it seems the trouble is only on Green. Check for any signs of arcing on the Green neck board around the tube socket.
I sent you a copy of the manual so that should help you set the G2. Is the Green tube the only one you are seeing problems with ?
It could be a high voltage leak but it could be you have two problems.... Open the hood and see if you see any arcing.

Please forgive my lack of experience, but how do I identify arcing? what does it look like?

Ok, I'm back with an update
I haven't had the chance to look under the hood yet, however it seems that there is an improvement in the situation.
Now the retrace is only visible when looking into the green tube on black scenes and it isn't visible on the screen.
However, it does affect the FTB, I can't get the room totaly darkened due to the light from the green tube.
