|
|
Good Day!
So I just replaced my Sony 1272 with the above Marquee! I am super excited! So you ask who cares and why post? Well I have a few questions I haven,t found the answers to.
1. I need to reset it to factory default, software and hardware.
2. The red and blue tubes are tiled "in" to each other
3. It was originally installed as a rear projection vertical mount with a mirror, so I assume this has something to do with the tubes being off.
If im not clear on what I mean I can post some pics of the test pattern tonight.
Thanks for any help!
Scott

Hello
To perform a memory reset select UTIL, 9, 0901 and full initialization. All crts have the tubes tilted in, the degree of tilt needs to vary with throw distance. What is "off" about the tubes?
I advise you locate an owners manual for setup guidance.

OK I did a full initialization. By tilted i mean the test pattern shows green flat and straight and plumb, red is lower than green and "tilted" to the right, blue is also lower than the green and not inline with the red and "tilted" to the left. like angry eyebrows. No amount of swing the tubes in and out fixes them. I can center the three colors but they are tilted like i need to raise the tube up and rotate it to make it line up.
I'll get some pics tonight and post them that should help.
I also have the manual but it doesnt say anything so far.
I was hoping someone that had setup a PJ in the vertical postion would chime in and say" ohh just undo this bolt and turn this"
Thanks for the replay

Hello
On red and blue, compare the horizontal grid line half way up the screen with the same green grid line, do not concern yourself with the vertical grid lines, they will straighten when you do a full convergence. If the other scan yokes are not leveled to green, they would need to be rotated. You need to take the covers off of the tubes and see if the scan yokes are glued to the tube bells, or can they be freely turned if the convergence yoke clamps are loosened. You may need a 3mm allen driver for the clamps.
One color too high or low means the tube magnetics need alignment; go to etechvideo.com and see Tech Tips.
Aligning tube magnetics means reaching amid Lethal Voltages, you may want to bring in a technician for that.
Put up some pictures of your test grid.

Hello
As to "tilted", your only concern is horizontal grid lines, the vertical lines we expect to be tilted after a reset.

ok got it adjusted flat and the center is in focus and is AMAZING! but the rest, or permiter of the screen is out of focus, and i cant get it with the edge focus ring on the lenses.
But its an improvement. Tomorrow is another day. Ill prolly have to do the setup a few more times from scratch.
The picture is also smaller than the test pattern, but that may be my HTPC, Ill hook my HDDVD player to it and see how it looks.
I really appreciate your time and input Tim.
Thanks
Scott

106" diagonal 16:9 screen is 92 inches wide. I have never gotten a set of HD10L lenses to focus on a normal HT size screens, not even 84 wide. To give you an idea, the VDC manual shows a max H of 71" for 10L on a 9500.
there's a set of GT17's listed on Videogon for $200. in Kentucky but unfortunately they might be from scammer Gary? See if you can find another set somehwere else. Post a WTB in the FS section

I am glad you jumped in here, I would have spent the night trying to focus it. So if I set it for a screen size of 70 it will work till i get a new set of lenses? Using the ones in the link you provided, those will do the screen size i have?
I was looking at your mods and upgrades, I noticed that my bellows are sweating glycol, I assume I need to just dismantle the 3 and ship them to you. If you look in side the lenses with a flashlight there is what appears to be the fungus growing at the bottom of all 3 tubes. Also a bit of flakes and spots on the whole tube face. The machine is a 94and has 1200 hours. Thoughts?

I re-read the mods page, So to do the bellows I need to also do the upgrades? so that totals 1209? and the turn around is about a week? and I will need different lenses to do 106 diagonal?
thanks for your help!

yeah the bellows, I really love those. I offer that as an enticement to get the HD mod's work which is what I like doing. At this point the bellows is more than just bellows, I'm having to seal each chamber with Black Epoxy paint because the Aluminum is corroding.
You could also do them yourself and avoid the risk and hassle of shipping expensive tubes. Costs about $250. total including 3 new bellows from Nash, $12. for a gallon of ice-clear non-toxic coolant, $36. for 2-part Expoxy paint (cheaper if you go with the spray on but possibly not as robust?). I can send you 6 stainless steel fill screws to replace the rusty ones.
AFA HD mod's, yes I can do the stock 9000 boards as long as it has the swing down rear heat-sink. Maybe consider upgrading some of the modules to newer 9500 parts and simply keeping the 9000 stuff for spares?

You would need to se the machine to the proper distance away from a 71" wide screen to get it to focus. That would be 93" away to cdenter of green lens.
The HD10F's are good for up to 247 wide so plenty of range.

Well as I barley have time to tweak this thing, I doubt i will try and redo the bellows myself. Would it be possible for you to call me, or me you ? my number is 6 3 0 8 3 4 9 1 1 0 my name is Scott. I would like to understand this more. Are boards for a 9500 the same for a 9000, and do you have them to sell me? i saw a post on videogon for the 9500 neck boards you have. Also if I get boards will you still do the bellow? Lots of questions I know but my work is busy so I can spend a little on this hobby!

Yeah I'll do the tubes if you really, REALLY need me to
Everything is interchangeable. The 9500 was a heavilly re-designed 9000. The big pieces to look for is video input module. loosen 2 thumb-screws and slide . If it's a 50-2005-03P I would replace. Either the common 50-2035-02P or more pricey 50-2035-03P will have Blue gamma tracking and just a better board. I would also pop in a new Control module to get lots of good features like both Center and Side Vertical Linearity in the Geometry menu and also "zone" contrtast modulation for uniform screen brightness. Lastly, I would consider a newer Horizontal board like 07P or 08P .
Last but not least, neck-boards, pop off the gold cover and look at this chip. If it's the CL409 I would not use it.
