|
|
Have decided to go for Greg Eisemann's 6 card mod upgrade for barco 1209s.
Not having any experience with the Barco, can anyone tell me of location for the 6 cards to be sent for modification?
Where in the pj are they to me found/how do I identify them?
What is physical proceedure needed to remove them?
Any other considerations?
Regards, Marc

It's a simple request for help:
Need to remove 6 cards, unsure where they are located and how to remove them.
Not all of us have a full working knowledge of these units.
Any practical help from forum members I would be very grateful for.

Thank you, AnalogRocks. Yes, will catch the wedding for 5 minutes!
Clearer on location of boards.
A little unsure on detaching boards from chassis re yellow cabling connecting boards to rest of pj.
Bear in mind it's a 13 year old unit, and I don't want to cause any damage!
So, safe proceedure on physical removal of boards?

I'll let a Barco guy answer that question. I'm an Ampro and Sony destroyer myself.
Generally, unplug the power from the mains. Wait 3 minutes and have at it. Go slow, check the connector for locks and, unless it's a ribbon cable, wiggle the connector and slowly take them off.
Keep in mind these projectors are meant to be serviced.

If you are careful you won't damage those yellow cables. Each board will have a hinged locating bracket on each end if you have a close look you can see that they rotate upwards. Just be careful. As far as which boards to remove well PM Greg and ask for the board numbers I know he does what he calls a complete set usually all the video chain I guess.

Back end boards are pretty straight forward to remove, just turn dark gray locks open and pull. Then remove yellow cables and video coax cables.
You can number boards and color code yellow cables with marker, so it's easier to put those back after few weeks.
Neck boards are bit harder to remove. Be carefull to pull those straight back so tubes neck pins wont bend.

Of course. That's normal. That's why I highly suggest you go to Greg ask him to provide exactly what boards are to be removed and exactly how to do this. I would imagine he already had a complete document with pictures done up to explain this in detail.
Nobody here knows which 6 boards Greg wants from you nor can anyone else be responsible for telling you how to package them up so that Greg is happy.
If Greg wants to do this sort of mod work for customers then Greg needs to provide detailed instructions on exactly how to remove the boards since it is in his best interest that his customers understand what to do regarless of how tech savvy they are.
One of our members here (DraganM) does Marquee HD mods. On the Marquee HD Mods order page is a downloadable document that includes complete instructions on how to exactly remove the various boards, package them for mailing, and then finally how to re-install them. This is done for 2 reasons: Because, as you said, not everyone would know how to do this and also because the last thing DraganM wants to receive are boards that have been damaged because they were removed incorrectly or packaged incorrectly for mailing.
See: http://www.curtpalme.com/MarqueeHDmods.shtm

These modifications requires some very basic ability to follow instructions and remove/re-install your boards.
See this document for detailed instructions with pictures: Marquee Board Removal and Re-Installation (500Kb PDF file). |
Like DraganM, Greg can't obviously be responsible for damage done to boards either during removal or transit to them. So I'm 100% sure Greg would RATHER that you ask him how to do this instead of just some other people on the internet in the hopes that people can guess what boards Greg wants and how he wants them packaged.
It's also in your best interest that these instructions come from Greg as that makes him responsible. If you do something based on instructions provided by someone else, obviously Greg isn't going to cover any problems that come up.
