I was fortunate enough to clear out an A/V companies stock of (NEC) CRT projectors recently, and have been left with 3 GP3000s. I'm not really sure what to do with these, but one of them has mint tubes, and I have new in box e8510 tubes (RGB) with neck boards. Can I use these tubes in something else, does anyone still use GPs?

No, no, and no. THese tubes are unique to the GP3000, the tubes were made by NEC. IN mint shape, they are decent sets, not on par with later EM focusing sets, but certainly on par with late model ES focusing sets. (Those first version EM tubes were pretty soft).

Recap the power supply around the two skinny custom chips that blow up if the caps wear, you might get a couple of years out of them, but it would be rare that there's still one in use out there.

Hah, I figured as much. I guess I'll try and fix one up and give it away to someone.

I am tearing down a GP-5000 LVPS, it uses the same hybrid ic as the GP-3000, I don't know if they are working, but if you wish I can send you the ics for backup, it's free just pay the shipping. Otherwise I will throw out them.
