hi
i have at home 2 crt projectors from the same brand runco 980 ultra
one of them have served me well for the last 6 years and i'm planing on replacing the tube from another runco 980 ultra that i have which is not working but the tubes over there are in a very good condition.
before letting my technician do the job (he had a Training
at runco many years ago and did it before)
is there any help that you can provide before we make any mistake?

Hello

I advise turning down G2, brightness and contrast before dismantling the projector that the better tubes are going into, so not to jolt them.

NO! DON'T TOUCH THE G2 CONTROLS! THey are specifically calibrated in the NEC, adjusting them will throw the whole color balance off.

I'd bleed the tubes before you put them in the new set, that's about it.

Sorry no, there's a small fill screw on the metal frame of each tube, usually covered with a dab of glue. THe glycol cooling fluid can build up pressure over time, and that glue should be chipped away, and excess fluid should be drained. A tiny air bubble within the tube chamber is a good thing, that will prevent tube implosion.

those are the tubes, the lenses you took off with a screwdriver. No, I would not pay someone to swap those tubes into a working machine.
Those stains are burn marks, company logo or windows Icon that was left sitting and projecting for a long time. Finding nice tubes is not easy, you would have better luck finding a different machine with good tubes in it.

My R and B tubes are pretty good shape, but my green has wear like that with multiple setups. For most movies and video it looks great, but unfortunately i like to watch soccer.

It's pretty darned annoying. Good lucking finding a green for an Xtra though.

i have decided
due to the state of the tubes i'm going to replace my runco with barco 1209
so now i have at home 2 spare projectors
do you think that i can sell some parts of them or the best thing is to throw it away?
