i worked up some sketches. based on a 100" screen, a pair of blended NEC would sit right above the first row. no problem at all. here is a topdown view and a side view. grid lines are 1 foot. PJ distances are based on the manual formulas with a sanity check on the NEC by comparing it to my last setup.

The PJ is over the couch which is just like your set up. no bother while sitting, and no bother when getting up or down. Now here are the same views, but with a single marquee.

WIth this setup, the Marquee is above but in front of the 2nd row by about a foot. this means that anyone standing on the riser to get up/down only has 5 1/2 feet of clearance. I'm just asking for bumped heads.

Crt pjs on a low ceiling can be so "in yer face" that no one is likely to bang their heads on them. That was one question I asked and was told no one ever hit their head on it.
Or maybe explore a 2 stage riser design, or bar seating for the second row? Or maybe a pair of upholstered swivel chairs for the riser?

Well, based on that, I'd say you might want to try to blend or side stack the NEC's. If the Marquee had been flush or behind the seat, I'd have continued to push that way. My buddy is 6' 4" and he has no issues getting under it.
If I ever get to do a true theatre (in next few years) I'd do a stack of Marquees. I'd love to put an ugly one in a bulkhead hushbox (out of sight) and have the nice Vidikron case hanging right below it. I'd just have a seat on either side and then a 3-4 seater in front.

Another option could be front row seating as low fixed recliner style seating with minimal riser height. Coupled with an AT screen it might be a natural for low ceiling'ed rooms.

The lounges could also be very low, almost on the floor, so you wouldn't even need a riser for the second row...

Not my style but that doesn't mean there's not ideas that can't be gleamed from a design.
A Google Images search on "lounger" turns up many other designs ranging from modern to old world.

I doubt that it matters much, but I would probably go with rgbbgr - Only because blue is the weakest.

Zaphod - I'm glad you decided to take the "Blend Plunge"! While it at times might be a little frustrating, you are in for a real surprise.

chain will be as follows:

other inputs (HD TV, old laserdiscs) will be hooked in via the extron switch/scaler
screen is 100" wide, 16:9 ratio.

You will need sun glasses, or run your contrast at about 30! Just a couple of suggestions:
1 - Pick up a "gamma boost" box somewhere and insert it just before your splitter. (or better yet, get two).
2 - Please tell me you have access to a good light sensor and are real good at getting a nice grayscale!
3 - Make sure your screen has a gain of no more than 1.0.
4 - Set your BD player for 1080P@24fsp and also your Extron scaler for the same output, then set your TVOne's to output (X)X1080P@72Hz.
5 - For other inputs, use 1080I inputs and set your Extron to 1080P@60 and change your refresh on your TVOne's to 60Hz. The TVOne's have more than 100 memory outputs (kind of clunky to change though).
6 - Keep us informed as you progress.

His screen is 16X9, so it does him no good. He could set up another memory just for 2.40 movies and save some bandwidth if he wanted to, but he would have to switch it everytime he gets a 16:9 movie.

He sure could, and it would be better if he started out with 24Hz and kept it at that until the TVOne's for BD's.
No, I haven't tried 96Hz yet as I have been busy messing with audio upgrades and learning (trying actually!) irule for my ipad.

i have an RTC-2200 that was in the chain until i read that the tv-ones have gamma adjust. if i'm wrong then i'll put it back in.
