Curt,
Don't laugh but do you service digitals?
A co-worker of my wife has a digital PJ with what appears to be a convergence issue. I don't know anything else about it.
Who would you recommend for out of warranty service?

Every one, and I mean every one that I've looked at was throwaway. Assuming yours is an LCD, a convergence issue means a slipped or shifted LCD panel usually.
The only LCD RPTV with a light engine problem that I've read about was the local guy (to me) that spent A YEAR looking for a good used piece on eBay. He posted recently about having it repaired after all this time.
I don't think it's worth the shipping costs to send it up frankly. If Mac wants you to send it to him, have at it, but I'd be prepared to buy a new one.

Usually, the problem with digitals is they're not worth enough that it even makes sense to buy the replacement parts for it, let alone pay a tech for a several hours of diagnosis and repair.
Something like convergence... Maybe that's worth it if a panel or prism block shifted and somebody can tweak it without investing too much time, but otherwise, it stops making sense in a hurry.

Unless it's a professional commercial unit, there's very little that's worth fixing.
I fixed an Infocus X2 that wouldn't start, and the reason was a wire that went to both a temp overheat sensor and the bulb cover switch had come loose. Soldered back on, and it fired right up.
But beyond that just buy a new projector, or have it warranty repaired/replaced by the manufacturer.
Convergence issues are AFAIK not fixable, it's done at the factory and the alignment is VERY precise. There are only a few high-end commercial D-Cinema type units that actually allow for physical chip alignment adjustments that I am aware of.

Some of the B-stock Sony's have gotten very inexpensive for 1080P SXRD projectors.

Probably because some of those bulbs (particularly Sony) are more expensive than a whole new projector (in some cases)!
