The more obscure and less known now the better.

I pulled out some old PAYOLA$ on vinyl tonight.

One of my favorite albums "Hammer on a drum"

With "Where is this Love" and "Never said I loved you".

Not so much unknown, but more so forgotten, my personal favorite would be Klaatu. With Rik Emmett (with or without Triumph) running a close second.

There are many of the obvious biggies (Neil Young, Guess Who, BTO, Rush, etc.). But others with less or no exposure in the US would include Blue Rodeo, Saga, Killer Dwarfs, Moving Targetz, Carpet Frogs, Rational Youth...

Yeah I like the more Alternative Canadian Music, like Treble Charger, Lowest Of the Low, the Kiljoys, tragicly Hip, Reostatics, etc...

Don't forget Gordon Lightfoot. (guilty pleasure: Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald).

Funny, whenever I see a headline of 'Canadian bands', I usually cringe, because of the stupid CRTC (Canadian FCC law) that dictates that Canadian stations play something like 25-30% Canadian content. That's why I listen to US radio exclusively.

I do forget though that Canada has had some pretty good bands.

How about: Goddo, Spoons?

While I'm a huge music fan, I never understood the Tragically Hip. I can't stand Gordon Downey's voice for one, and I usually like bands that have some harmonies. The TH remind me of U2 and REM, who I can't stand either save for a couple of songs. I guess I've just never liked relatively stark songs with one singer singing the chorus.

I'd rather see young women like Nelly Furtado.

See Curt I like the CRTC laws and wish local governments in the USA would do the same( yes some Gov regulation can help) but with Local band content. So Local bands can get some airplay and make some money and get exposure.

Thats why I love Canadian music more than US bands, it has a different feel to it.

Living on the border i get Canadian Music from CFNY 102.1 and 97.7 Hits Fm. They play things you will never hear on the local Buffalo channels and its a shame. Buffalo local Band the Goo Goo Dolls got more airplay on CFNY than the local stations here until they made it big!

I hate the Tragically Crap! They get way too much air play ( read: any ) because of the Can-con law. Whinny Gordon Downey! I can't understand why the hell people like that band at all. Every time the come on the radio I change the station or pop in a cassette. I remember when he did a solo project, the radio DJ's were fawning over his work" Isn't that a great song?"

I called them up and gave them the number for a local hearing clinic. They weren't impressed.

How about Jim Martin and the Tea Party?

I have to admit i got over the Trag hip after their third album, But Gordons voice reminds me of the singer from Midnight Oil.
I think he over did the whine when he started to read in magazines that "his voice is unique" .

I still like the older TH, so....

Gotta love martha and the Muffins from way way back Wink

Tea Party could put on a good show. All my friends hated them for some reason. I did get to see them in concert once though, ironically it was with the Headstones.
