Athansios (Nacho66)

Did you ever get a chance to do any more with the Barco KAF3203 KOK21 focus coils? From your pics it looks like the magnets were about right. Were you going to try to rewind the coils?

When you talked about finding a vendor to make custom focus coil parts, it made me do a few google searchs just to see what was out there. I did not find anything that look promising, but I did find this link that has a good description of all the parts that make a CRT work. This company makes high-resolution digital film imaging solutions (basically a very high rez CRT, projecting a image on to film). I thought the Paper was very good, it is quite a bit above the basics but not so technical that I couldn't understand it. There is a part that describes how they align their focus coils that I thought was very interesting.

I havent got around to it, I haven't even unpacked the package that company sent back to me! I have started other mods right now but plan to try a rewind of those eventually I did test how a marquee focus coil magnets controls the grid while not plugged into the focus board and the barco magnets have the same effect. So what does that mean? I believe the magnet strength of the barco magnet pack will suffice , all we need to do is rewind the dynamic and static coils to marquee specs. maybe some one will get to that before i have a chance, if you do let us know the results, have to go i have a couple hot soldering irons on and have some work to do Wink.

Thanks for those links! I own 3? 4? Polaroid film recorders. I wish I had more.

Regarding the potential improvement of focus ability as the focus coil is moved closer to the bell; has anyone removed the "hoseclamp" and plastic ears from the convergence yoke, and hot-glued the focus coil to it? That would get the focus coil about 3/8" further ahead.

On my setup, the focus on the edges and corners could be better- and the dynamic RGB focus is at 0 or 100; not quite enough adjustment range.

Thanks, Mark

so to be clear the pin number in the chart goes to the number on the sony harness my harness has different wire colors than you show. this is why I would like a clear discription (ie pin one on focus harness goes to pin 4 on sony harness. with pics to show the pin assignments

the colour difference is because I used a Barco harness.
the extra 2 wires are for the temperature compensation thermister thats in the thompson yokes but not in the DKs

I wonder if its not connected inside the coil, is it on all three or just one? Disconnect one at a time till the noise goes away. What do you mean by "cross talk" explain a bit....

if i unplug the green coil it seems to be better but that does not seem to be the main cause. What i mean by cross talk is when i am displaying the menu for instance usually it only shows green well on the blue and red tube i get the menu image showing up on them. I have tried swapping neck cards and the vim and still no luck. if i unplug all of the yokes i no longer get it but there seems to be some noise in the picture when you look into the tube.
this all happened after the yoke mod. that is why i am at a loss.
nothing else has changed.

that is odd.
Each yoke has its own seperate cables so there should be no intermix of signals. you can botch the individual coils on one plug but you'd have to really work hard to intermix the different tube signals.

pull out the ohm meter and compair resistance readings with a thompson yoke.
then try plugging in a thompson yoke to see if you get similar results.

maybe you have astig signals driving a focus yoke and making a HUGE magnetic field that is affecting adjacent tubes.
my only theory.
