Hey,
i just bought a Barco Vision 701s for 10€ with nearly new tubes, ok shipment is a little bit more expensive than 10 Bugs but Twisted Evil .
I got the Idea to change the HD 145 Lenses to HD 6 cause there might be not such a big difference on the EL Focus Barco.
The Question: is there realy big difference on a Marquee 8500?
I red a lot in the last 2 Hours, but everyone is talking about Colours (and the HD 144). The Lenses on the Barco are HD 145 ones and unfiltered. I am Using PT 65 Lenses on my Marquee so they are a little bit sharper than the HD 8.
So my question is, do Pictures in this forum exist which give my the motivation to build Lens adapters?

The problem is that i am not able to spend 150€ on the "original" adapters, so i must find ways to build it out of wood or aluminium by myself. So I expect at least 10 Hours of Work.
Do the Throw Distance changes a lot?

going from HD-8 to HD144/145 will make a big difference in focus and color (especially if you get the color filtered 144/145's) HD-8 is not that good of a lens. HD-6 is fine for a barco701 like you said.

So is HD8 as "bad" as a PT 65? I noticed a difference between those two lenses.
Is the HD 145 as good as the HD 144 (only the sharpness). I read in an old post (2005) of the AVS Forum, that the HD 145 is not as good the HD 144 (both filtered...).

I think those question do exist all around in this Forum, but am i right that noone has taken pictures of his change?

As i found right now is, that the Picture will be a little bit smaller, excelent for my room.

I have not seen picture quality comparisons anywhere of these lenses. My limited understanding was that the HD144 and HD145's were very similar. Making the change to color filtered lenses would make the most difference in your system.

Revox, you should fill in your profile to indicate what country you're from. Maybe someone locally could help you out too.

I red a interesting thread out there:

My Marquee has got nearly mint Tubes, so i am able to use nearly the full phosphor area.
The Guy out there says there might be a problem with "darkend" corners.
http://forum-display.com/discussion/15747/2/best-resoultion-for-a-bg808/

My Glycol is already coloured, so the colours are near the "optimum" of the sRGB room.

So i know there is a hype out there of the HD 144 and HD 145 Lenses, but i did not find posts that describe the changes so, let me say "academic" , as things in the marquee modification thread.

Greetings from Berlin, Stefan

jester is right. 144 and 145 are nearly identical, with slightly different focal lengths. Both are superior to HD8 sharpness-wise, but it's not a HUGE difference. The big win with these lenses on a Marquee is color filtering -- but you don't have filtered lenses so no gain there.

Meanwhile you'd have to buy or make adapters, move the projector to compensate for the different focal length, etc. If it was me, I wouldn't bother.

Maxing out the phosphor usage gets you out toward the edges of the lenses, and might reduce brightness and sharpness in the corners. Not 100% sure on that one.

Hello Stefan,

Did you get your Marquee from Uwe of Spatz-tech?

Some new AC marquee's come stock with clear HD 145's. They are definitely better in focus on the edges than the HD8's.

I think if your looking for the best upgrade for an 8 inch marquee is to find a set of 8 inch LC housings and a set of any HD 10 lens.

But making an adaptor is not hard if you have access to a CNC machine. I would only use aluminum, wood and plastic/Acrylic will expand and contract too much and affect convergence stability.

No, i got the Marquee from someone who was selling "old university Stuff" who was not deep into technics.
I got 2 nearly mit Marquees for 400€. But the tubes were a burned a little bit (after 800hours!).

I think i try it definitively with an testbuild on the green lens.

Cause i am a student with, let me say other hobbys, investing to much money in the home cinema is not possible.
In the moment i don't have the possibility to know someone whos acsess to a cnc machine. Every one is just studiing and calculating...

Hello. If i got everything right.. you have set of clear HD-145 lenses from Barco and colored clygols at marquee tubes.
So it is defenetly good upgrade to build those adapters. You will get much more sharpness compaired to PT-65 or HD-8 lenses. And those "sony coolants" at marquee tubes give good color correction, so you dont need colorfiltered lenses.

Just build adapters, there are two style: Joust or one´s that uses part from hd-8 lens casing
(similar to those that i made years ago) -> http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/showthread.php?t=38185&highlight=hd-144
Here is some pictures that how i made adapters to my marquee -> http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/showthread.php?t=57135&page=3&highlight=marquee+tulossa
