The set doesn't need astig, it probably needs degaussing. the Degaussing thermistors die often on those Sonys.
I'd go talk to the local TV repair store to see if you can rent their degaussing tool... if they still have one.

On the Sonys they are all done on the yoke/neck of the tube with magnets. That's the Trinitron design. No convergence board in those sets.

Then you may be SOL. Does that remote have a display button and if it does, does it function on the tv?

Thats not what I meant. The adjustments your looking for are in the service menu. But you need the original remote to get into the service menu. Sometimes an aftermarket remote will work if it has similar working buttons. And one that is needed is the display button.

I've had luck using aftermarket remotes to enter service mode on newer(relative) XBRs. That said, this guide was helpful to be prior to the death of my sony.

Aha ok. It's like this then:
[PWR OFF] - [DISP], [5], [VOL+], [PWR ON]
-or-
[PWR OFF] - [DISP], [5], [PWR ON]
But i can't figure out wich [DISP] - botton will be on this remote. Perhaps thats the one who is missing.. By the way the TV starts up on [ 5 ]

disp is for display. Do you have a button that when you push it the on screen display comes up? Not the menu.

If it is correct, this is the sequence for your model.
With the tv in standby, press: display, 5, volume +, tv(or power maybe) and the tv should turn on and it should have TT in the upper right corner.
You can try different buttons for "display" and/or "tv" until you get the TT.
