I'm looking to pick up a Vision One case for my 9500LC and emailed a local body shop about painting it and received a quote of $750 Shocked

Can anyone tell me what's involved with properly prepping and painting the fiberglass case? I don't mind putting sweat equity into this but would like the results to be top notch. Perhaps I could do the prep work and then have the shop lay down the paint.

I'm looking to have it painted high gloss piano black and have a small chip repaired on the surface. What materials would I use; i.e. sandpapers, compounds, etc.?

Thanks,

Justin

It should be the same as painting Body parts such as Bumpers (Plastic/fibre stuff). I'm sure a little google search should tell you everything about it.

I'm currently working on my Barco 808 case to do the same and that's how I'm going to do it:

-If there is any deep scratches sand the area down and fill it up with filler then sand it down again to make a nice smooth surface.
-Sand the whole case
-Clean it of all the dust
-Prime it with the right primer (at least two layer)
-Sand it down with ultra thin sandpaper and water, it should then be almost shiny
-Take it to the Body shop and if he wants more than $100 tell him to... (put whatever comes into your head)

I mean how did the guy come up with $750. I guess that takes into account all the preparation and a dozen layers of paint laquer and polish to make it ultra shiny.

I got a quote over the phone from a Body Shop in England and they said it should cost about £40 for Glossy Black.
