I don't see the Vision 1 in projector rankings, is it Marquee based? Someone in my area has one listed $1399.00 o.b.o. After a little search I see "trebortaergeht" got one for $360.00. September last. Anybody with a Vision 1 with opinions/experiences they would like to share?
Thanks,
Philip

It's either a 9500 or 9500 Ultra, you won't know which one unless you take the cover off. The tubes better be pretty close to mint at $1400...

As with everything else the price depends on condition. At this point, assuming it's an "original owner" set being sold by the shop that originally sold it and took it back on trade, then the tuebs should be in good shape. However, it's still well over 10 years old and a marquee of that age will almost certainly need
1)new bellows and glycol,
2)might have corrosion in the LC chamber which needs to be re-sealed with Epoxy paint,
3)will drift on convergence
and
4)be soft at 1080P if the 15 year old electronics in the chassis haven't been worked on.
Of course this is my opinion but I speak from experience based on the work i've done for people to deal with "all of the above" over the last year.

draganm, I appreciate your experienced info. Do the tubes have to come out to replace bellows and glycol? This projector cannot be harder to work on than my XG852?

yes the tubes have to come out. Replacing the bellows is not hard just a little time consuming and if your the DIY type it will actually be fun and rewarding when its all put back together.
I saw that listing. if thew tubes are an 8 or better id take it for that price. the case alone you could sell for some nice coin. I have been wanting two cases for my Blend.

I had a long post written up about what happened with mine and what you should do to check it, but my phone crapped out right before I sent it. Herea the condensed version:
I had issues with mine
Check tube condition
Check p14 voltage
Check g2 health
I wouldnt buy it at that price unless it was nearly perect.(but I'm a cheap bastard)

I like how I picked the most complicated brand to use fr my first CRT Projectors, NEC , though I never did settle for anything easy!

Jeremy112 what model did/do you have? My first was a freebee Panasonic 101 I think. No remote and had to converge with screw driver!

What kind of cost/work could be involved in this upgrade I wonder?
Vidikron's Top-of-the-Line Vision One 9 inch CRT Projector,
"I bought the projector 2 years ago with around 2,000 hours of usage. I seldom use the projector. I watch around 2 movies per week. The 3 tubes are clean and no visible marks. I upgraded the 3 Video Neck Boards, Horizontal Deflection Board, Stig Amp and Vertical Deflection Board, and Convergence Board by changing the capacitors and resistors to higher grade parts. The upgrade improves the performance of the Vision 1, such as much sharper, more dynamic, colors are richer, and the entire picture just looks like true high definition. However, the CRT hour counter shows 15.9 million hours on the projector after the upgrade. The impossible reading does not affect the performance of the projector."

Keep in mind the bellows will be leaking or sweating from age, hour counter is irrlevant in this regard.

draganm, sorry for unclear reason for that post. Yes it sold already. I was just wondering about time and cost of doing those upgrades.

The upgrades are pretty affordable, half the cost of 1 new 9 inch tube. They're listed here through the forum in the 3rd party vendors section or by clicking on my signature link. Turn around time is pretty good, typically 10 to 12 calender days from my door to yours. The following boards are re-furbished and modified for improved performance.
* Convergence
* Stigmator Amp
* Vertical Deflection
* Horizontal Deflection
* Focus Module
* All 3 video neck boards
* Color correction module
The bellows I can also do and the cost includes any required Epoxy re-sealing but if you worked on an NEC you can certainly do this yourself. Other things for Marquee include possible addition of Red C-element, HFQ900 lenses, etc. but it depends on how far each person wants to go. The majority of people are very happy with an electronically refurbished 9500, clean tubes, and suitable lenses for HT (avoid HD10L for screens wider than 78 inches horizontal) Stock Vision 1's come with HD10GT17.

Just the setup alone is soo much easier.
