HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I messed up the lens flapping on my red CRT and I cannot get it back. It seems that the bolts can alter the focus in the direction that corrects the focus, but not enough to correct it!!!!
I am completely lost and I need HELP!!!!!!!!

Hello

M8500 is it? "Reset" the bolts by adjusting for a 17mm air gap between the plate holding the tube and the plate holding the lens, and try again.

Hi Tim!

Thank you for the quick reply!
I will ask a friend of mine (who used to work for Sony as a technician) to help me.
He has a lot of experience with CRTs, but is not familiar with the Marquee chassis.
He tried to correct the problem with the technique described in the installation manual, but it seems there is some problem with the 2 lens flapping bolts, and there doesn't seem to be enough of an adjustment. The bolts are too tight on one direction and on the other direction there is very little change and then the bolt loosens completely.
Should we remove the lens completely in order to re-adjust the plate?

P.S. It is an 8500 non ultra!

remember to turn 1 bolt a half twist and the other bolt in the opposite direction otherwise nothing happens.
do like time said and put the bolts in a "neutral" position, and make sure optical focus is the best you can get with the front barrel of the lens.
then unfocus by turning the barrel closest to the tube and try again.
make sure the edges of the red are aligned with the green instead of the center (mistake i made too) otherwise the red has to swing too much inwards and you can run out of scheimpflug correction range.

Hello

Did you loosen the four clamping bolts above the tubes?

Do you mean the bolts with a Phillips type screw that are immediately under the front cover?

No

These are long hex head bolts that clamp the tubes from moving. They must be loosened for scheimpflug adjustment.

Napos they are labeled A bolts if i an correct from memory. If they are not loosened then the schemfluge bolt will do nothing.

Thank you all for all your help. I will try loosening the bolts before performing the lens flapping. I will let you know how it goes!

(muttering to myself) Now if somebody could just explain why I can't get the ^$%#@! blue to dial in at the corners like the freeking G&R I'd be a happy CRT-er.

An update on the situation: Everything is fine!!!
Finally got to fix the lens flapping on the red CRT. My friend who is a technician came over yesterday and managed to fix it. We had to loosen the A and B bolts, but it was still a difficult process because the spring coils that are behind the plate were too tight. Are they supposed to be like that?
Anyway, the focus is now better than ever before. Thank you all for all your help!!!

I became a happy CRT'er today when I discovered the bright uniformity was way off and causing the right side of the image to bloom, now its nice and even across the screen, so far it looks Shocked

Soon a 9" will make me an extatic CRT'er, (soon=eons) Very Happy

Good luck on the 8500 Napos! Thumbs Up
